BMW enters the water with electric paddleboard
The stand-up paddleboard is being developed in collaboration with Slovenia’s SipaBoards, with pricing beginning at €3,990. The board features an integrated electric motor (up to 300W) which can inflate the board automatically. This is paired with a custom propeller, as well as swappable battery modules. Initially, this means two 90 Wh units, but 180 Wh modules will also become available from Spring 2026. All in all, it means top speeds of up to 7.5km/h (4 knots) and between one and 3.5 hours of use.
Weighing 14.9kg including the motor, the dimensions of the board itself are 3.65m x 0.82m x 0.15m. BMW states it is designed to carry up to two people. There’s plenty of BMW branding in here, which BMW says uses the ‘design language’ of its Neue Klasse models. This extends to a few nifty features: automatic shut off if the paddle falls into the water; a mounting system for cameras, speakers, bags, and coolboxes.
In a statement, BMW said: “The BMW x SipaBoards is the product of a collaboration with Slovenian manufacturer SipaBoards, the market leader in the field. The boards are self-inflating and combine electric drive technology with high-grade materials, digital connectivity and a flexible energy system. This is the first time BMW has offered an electrically powered product designed for water sports, opening up a new chapter in riding pleasure in the process. BMW Group Designworks took care of the visuals.”
