Porsche introduces the Macan GTS

Porsche introduced the fifth engine option for the electric Macan. The GTS sprints to 100 kph in 3.8 seconds. Although its 380 kW puts it below the Turbo, the Macan GTS is said to offer similarly agile handling.

Porsche is expanding the drive range for the fully electric Macan with the traditional GTS variant. This is positioned above the Macan 4S but below the Macan Turbo, making it the second most powerful version in the portfolio. The rear axle of the Numero 5 model features the same electric motor as the Turbo, but different motors are installed on the front axle.

The Zuffenhausen-based company states that the system output with the motor on the front axle is 380 kW. In overboost mode, the output can be increased to 420 kW for a short time. By way of comparison, the top-of-the-range Macan Turbo delivers 430 kW or 470 kW in overboost mode to all four wheels.

The new Macan GTS weighs 2.4 tonnes, but is said to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds – when launch control is activated and the full 955 Newton metres of torque are available. It reaches 200 km/h in 13.3 seconds. At 250 km/h, the propulsion is brought to a halt.

Maximum range of 586 kilometres

With a WLTP range of 586 kilometres and its 800-volt system, the Macan GTS, which costs at least €104,200, is also intended to be suitable as a long-distance car. Thanks to a maximum charging capacity of 270 kW, the charge level of the 100 kWh NMC battery can ideally be increased from 10 to 80 per cent within 21 minutes – as with all other Macan variants. Porsche states the combined consumption of the new GTS as 18.5 kWh.

The GTS variant is naturally intended to outshine the more affordable Macan 4 and Macan 4S engines in more ways than just its longitudinal dynamics. The engineers have also tuned the standard active sports air suspension for greater agility and lowered it by 10 millimetres. The Macan GTS comes with ‘ePTM’ traction distribution and torque vectoring as standard. Rear-axle steering is also available at an extra cost.

The second most powerful variant is said to offer the lowest centre of gravity and a distinctly dynamic weight distribution. Thanks in part to the electronically controlled differential lock located behind the rear engine, the weight distribution is 52:48 in favour of the rear.

The Macan GTS comes with the Sport Chrono Package as standard, which is designed to further enhance the SUV’s driving dynamics. This variant has been expanded to include circuit mode, which was previously reserved for the Taycan in the all-electric models, and which pre-cools the battery slightly for use on the racetrack.

Externally, the GTS variant is recognisable by its blackened components, as in the other series. Even the Matrix LED headlights and rear lights are subtly darkened. In addition, there are wider side skirts and three new paint colours. The Macan GTS comes with 21-inch wheels as standard, but 22-inch wheels are also available at an extra cost. In the interior, customers can choose between different colour schemes with the model-specific GTS package.
