Basic GLC EQ expected to deliver 230 kW
Even before the first cars are delivered, Mercedes is expanding the range of engines available for the new GLC with EQ technology. The electric mid-range SUV has been available to order since the end of October, starting at €71,281, but so far only as the GLC 400 4MATIC EQ, which delivers 360 kW and 800 Newton metres of torque.
Now there is new information regarding the entry-level version: the GLC 200 EQ also packs a punch with 230 kW, putting it above the magic 300 hp mark. This is a first for Mercedes in the mid-range segment. According to the Mercedes-Benz fan portal JESMB, the rear-wheel drive model will feature the MB.EA-M engine – although this designation is actually used for the GLC EQ platform and not purely for the engine. It is said to be based on the ‘eATS2.0Large’ from the revised EQS.
LFP battery for the basic version
The smallest battery, with an energy content of 64 kWh, is located in the underbody. Mercedes has opted for LFP instead of NMC for the cell chemistry. Due to the lower capacity, charging from 10 to 80 per cent should take two minutes less. The Mercedes blog JESMB quotes 20 minutes. The WLTP range is expected to be 460 kilometres, while the efficiency-oriented ‘Long Range Edition’ should be able to cover up to 485 kilometres.
No specific details are available yet on performance, but JESMB estimates that it will go from zero to 100 in around 6.5 seconds. Customers will probably have to make a few compromises in the interior.
As with the higher-end versions, Mercedes is installing three separate displays as standard. The MBUX Superscreen and the even larger MBUX Hyperscreen are available at an extra cost, even with the base engine. The latter stretches across the entire dashboard and gives the cockpit a distinctly futuristic look.
Starting price below €60,000
The price is likely to start just below the €60,000 mark. JESMB estimates a list price of €59,200. However, the car manufacturer is currently offering private customers a five per cent discount. This means that entry into the GLC EQ world will be €56,240 in the short term.
It is not yet known when orders for the GLC 200 EQ will open. The only thing that is certain is that two different drive versions are set to be launched in 2025. The GLC 400 4MATIC EQ is already available, and the Stuttgart-based company will reveal which version it will follow up with in the coming weeks.
The list also includes the rear-wheel-drive GLC 250 with 260 kW, the less powerful all-wheel-drive version GLC 300 4MATIC EQ (310 kW) and the longest-range variant 300+ EQ, which is expected to deliver 270 kW and offer a range of up to 735 kilometres.
