Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake now available to order

The new Mercedes-Benz CLA is now available in Europe as a shooting brake. At market launch, however, only two variants with the large battery are available; a more affordable entry-level version with an LFP battery will follow later.

The model lineup for the launch of the Shooting Brake mirrors that of the sedan: Initially, two versions equipped with the 85 kWh NMC battery are available. The CLA 250+ Shooting Brake with EQ technology starts from 57,096 euros on the German market, while the CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake with EQ technology is priced from 61,653 euros.

This pricing makes the two Shooting Brake models approximately 1,250 euros more expensive than the sedan. Applying this price difference to the list price of the newly orderable base model of the sedan, the CLA 200 (from 49,421 euros), the CLA 200 Shooting Brake with the 58 kWh LFP battery is expected to start at around 50,700 euros once this variant becomes available as a station wagon.

The ‘+’ in the model designation of the CLA 250+ Shooting Brake signifies the longest-range variant in the series for Mercedes. This rear-wheel-drive model delivers 200 kW of power and achieves a WLTP range of up to 768 kilometres. For comparison: The CLA 250+ sedan, featuring the same powertrain, offers a maximum WLTP range of 792 kilometres. The difference for the slightly heavier and less aerodynamic Shooting Brake is noticeable but relatively minor.

The CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake serves as the (provisional) flagship model in the series. It features the same NMC battery with a usable energy capacity of 85 kWh as the sedan. In addition to the 200 kW rear powertrain with a two-speed transmission, it includes a second electric motor at the front. This all-wheel-drive model delivers 260 kW of power and 515 Nm of torque—compared to a maximum of 335 Nm for the CLA 250+. With a WLTP range of 743 kilometres, it is slightly lower. For comparison with the sedan: The 260 kW all-wheel-drive CLA, with its smaller trunk, achieves up to 771 kilometres.

With factory figures of 6.8 and 5.0 seconds for acceleration from 0 to 100 kph, the Shooting Brake is one-tenth of a second slower than the sedan in each case. However, the top speed remains unchanged at 210 kph. Since the Shooting Brake shares the 800-volt MMA platform with the sedan, both the battery and charging behaviour are identical: With up to 320 kW DC fast charging, the CLA can recharge from ten to 80 per cent in 22 minutes. On the AC side, an 11 kW onboard charger is standard, with an optional 22 kW unit available.

As a Shooting Brake, the new model primarily distinguishes itself from the sedan with its more spacious rear, designed to offer greater practicality and flexibility. However, as it is a Shooting Brake rather than a classic station wagon (referred to as a T-Model by Mercedes), the focus lies on blending elegant yet dynamic design with added space rather than maximising practicality. The trunk offers a maximum capacity of 1,290 litres, but only when the rear seatbacks (available from the factory in a 40:20:40 split) are folded down. Under the front hood, there is a 101-litre frunk. The Shooting Brake also comes with a standard roof rail for a roof rack and an optional trailer hitch, which, in the all-wheel-drive model, allows for a towing capacity of up to 1.8 tons.

The CLA Shooting Brake retains the same extensive list of optional extras as the sedan. Standard equipment includes a panoramic glass roof, the front panel with the illuminated Mercedes-Benz pattern, LED headlights, automatic climate control, front seat heating, the new multifunction steering wheel (featuring some haptic controls instead of touch fields), the driver display (10.3 inches), and the 14-inch central display. Additional features such as the Keyless-Go package, memory function for seat settings, or the MBUX Superscreen and Multibeam LED headlights are included in optional packages. The CLA can be further customised with additional individual options.

For the German market, Mercedes also provides an example leasing rate in its announcement, but only for private customers. Under these terms, the CLA 250+ Shooting Brake is available from 405 euros per month, provided that 20 per cent of the vehicle price is paid as a leasing down payment and the contract includes a 36-month term with 15,000 kilometres per year.

Mercedes expresses strong satisfaction with the market launch of the CLA sedan, noting that demand in Europe is “exceptionally high.” “The brand-new electric CLA Shooting Brake is a true game-changer. It combines sporty performance with generous space and versatility,” said Mathias Geisen, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at Mercedes. “It redefines everyday driving—intelligently, efficiently, and unmistakably Mercedes-Benz. For our customers, this means more room for individuality, adventure, and their personal lifestyle.”
