TotalEnergies winds down EV charging in Singapore
The charging stations themselves were operated by TotalEnergies as part of an agreement with the car sharing service BlueSG. This saw TotalEnergies take over a number of chargers from Bolloré when that firm exited Singapore in 2021 – chargers which were used primarily by BlueSG customers. As part of the takeover, TotalEnergies allowed BlueSG cars to continue using the chargers for both recharging and as pick-up / drop-off locations for rental EVs.
Since BlueSG halted its operations in August, TotalEnergies has now announced that it plans to transfer all its Singapore charging stations to other charging point operators (CPOs) by December 31st. This is not an insubstantial transfer of assets; TotalEnergies currently operates 1,465 of Singapore’s 11,282 charging stations, with around 500 of these open to the public and the rest formerly reserved for BlueSG customers.
From tomorrow (Nov 28), 63 of TotalEnergies’ charging stations will be switched off and transferred to another CPO, SP Mobility. This includes 250 charging points in Housing Board carparks across Singapore. The remaining charging stations will be transferred to other CPOs already operating in carparks owned by the local Land Transport Authority, which held the contract with TotalEnergies.
According to Straits Times, TotalEnergies said that the decision does not impact its other business activities in Singapore. In a statement, it said: “We remain committed to supporting the Singapore Green Plan and the region’s energy transition needs”
