Kia opens reservations for EV5 in Canada
Kia Canada has confirmed pricing and reservation details for the EV5, an all-electric SUV that will be offered exclusively in Canada within the North American region. Pricing for the 2027 EV5 starts at CAD 43,495 for the Light FWD trim. The Wind and Land versions follow, each available in FWD and AWD, before the line-up culminates in the GT-Line and GT-Line Limited variants, with the top AWD model priced at CAD 61,495.
Two battery options are available: a 60.3 kWh pack for the entry-level Light trim and an 81.4 kWh long-range unit from the Wind trim upward. The EV5 will also be equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) to ensure access to Canada’s expanding network of high-power DC chargers.
Kia presented the EV5 in the summer of 2023 and initially launched it in China. It adopts design cues from the larger EV9, with a pronounced stance, a closed EV interpretation of Kia’s ‘tiger face’ grille and a 3D star map lighting signature. Wheel sizes span 18 to 20 inches, and eight exterior colours are planned, including new shades Magma Red and Frost Blue. The interior features nearly 30 inches of digital display surface, environmentally mindful materials already familiar from Kia’s EV range, and a cabin layout with flat-folding rear seats, a front trunk and additional console storage resulting from a steering column-mounted shifter.
Production of the Canadian-market EV5 will take place at Kia Autoland Gwangju in South Korea. Initial availability will cover the Wind FWD to GT-Line Limited AWD trims, while the entry Light FWD model is scheduled to reach customers in late 2026. Kia expects to publish official range figures in early 2026.
The model will not be marketed in the US, as Kia Canada announced earlier this year. The official reasons are not known, but tariffs on automobiles imported into the US may well have something to do with it. In Canada, the all-electric SUV enters what Kia identifies as the largest vehicle segment in the country and is the first of three more affordable EVs the brand intends to introduce there in 2026.
