Tesla Model 3 standard starts at €36,990

Just a few months after the scaled-down Model Y, Tesla is now also offering a 'Standard' version of the Model 3 in Europe. The Model 3 Standard is now available in Germany starting at €36,990.

In October, Tesla introduced the new ‘Standard’ versions of the Model 3 and Model Y as streamlined base models, initially in the US. The Model Y Standard subsequently launched in Europe later that same month—like the versions renamed ‘Premium,’ the European Model Y Standard is also produced in Grünheide. In Germany, the base version of the Model Y has since been available from €39,990.

The Model 3 Standard has now also arrived in Europe. The new variant is listed in the German configurator from €36,990. As with the Model Y, the Standard model replaces the previous version, which featured an LFP battery and rear-wheel drive. The next higher variant in the configurator is the ‘Premium’ trim with the ‘Maximum Range Rear-Wheel Drive’ powertrain, which is equipped with the larger battery.

Tesla states the WLTP range of the Model 3 Standard as 534 kilometres, with a top speed of 201 kph and a sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 6.2 seconds. Without the previous base variant—which also featured an LFP battery and rear-wheel drive—the jump to the next higher model variant is significant: the most affordable Premium model (from €44,990) offers a WLTP range of 750 kilometres and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 5.2 seconds. The top speed remains the same across all Model 3 versions except for the Performance model.

While there are more noticeable visual differences between the Standard and Premium models of the Model Y—such as the LED light strips at the front and rear—the Model 3 Standard can only be distinguished externally by its wheels in the so-called ‘Prismata’ design, compared to the ‘Photon’ wheels on the Premium variants. Both wheel types are 18 inches in size. Inside, however, the seats are slightly more basic than those in the Premium models. Unlike the Model Y Standard, where the Tesla-typical glass roof is covered internally with a lining, the glass roof on the Model 3 Standard remains unchanged.

Nevertheless, the more affordable base model comes with some additional limitations. Instead of six paint colours, only three are available. In Europe, the free base paint is ‘Pearl White Multi-Coat,’ while ‘Diamond Black’ and ‘Stealth Grey’ each cost an additional €1,300. Red, blue, and silver are only available with the Premium trims. There is no choice of wheels, and the interior is always black. Customers can only add the tow hitch for €1,350 (with a towing capacity of up to 1,000 kg) or one of the usual Autopilot packages. And, as is typical for Tesla, the list price of €36,990 is supplemented by an additional €980 in “destination and documentation fees.”
