Mahindra has developed the XEV 9S on the same ‘INGLO’ skateboard platform as the BE 6 and XEV 9e. It is bringing the new EV to the domestic market in only a seven-seat version, with prices ranging from 1.995 million rupees (approximately 19,250 euros) to 2.945 million rupees (approximately 29,400 euros).

The company is giving customers a choice of three powertrains and battery packs. It uses a 170 kW/380 Nm motor and a 59 kWh LFP battery pack in the base variant, a 180 kW/380 Nm motor and a 70 kWh LFP battery pack in the mid-range variant, and a 210 kW/380 Nm motor and a 79 kWh LFP battery pack in the range-topping variant.

The 59 kWh battery pack supports charging at up to 140 kW, the 70 kWh unit at up to 160 kW, and the 79 kWh unit at up to 180 kW, with all three charging from 20% to 80% SoC in as little as 20 minutes. On a full charge, the base variant covers up to 521 kilometres, the mid-range variant delivers a range of 600 kilometres, and the range-topping variant travels 679 kilometres.

Mahindra claims the XEV 9S is the quickest seven-seat SUV in its segment, taking as little as 7.0 seconds for a 0–100 kph sprint, and claims a top speed of 202 kph. In addition to impressive performance, variable-ratio steering and semi-active suspension make it one of the most sophisticated products in its class.

Targeting tech-savvy drivers, Mahindra equips the XEV 9S with a multitude of advanced features such as an AR-HUD, a 12.3-inch front passenger touchscreen, 5G connectivity, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, and front and rear wireless charging pads. In terms of safety, the company offers Level 2+ advanced driver assistance systems, Driver Drowsiness Detection, Blind Spot Monitor, a 360º camera system, front and rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, and seven airbags.

Mahindra plans to start accepting orders for the XEV 9S on 14 January and begin deliveries on the 23rd of the same month. The company has received an impressive response to the BE 6 and XEV 9e, delivering more than 30,000 units combined in just seven months. The Indian automaker has allocated 65 billion rupees (approximately 627 million euros) towards the launch of the three bespoke EVs.
