Kia models now eligible for UK Electric Car Grant
The grant applies to all EV4 ‘Air’ and PV5 Passenger ‘Essential’ and ‘Plus’ trims, including both the 81.4kWh and the 58.3kWh battery options. Specifically, these are eligible for the government’s Electric Car Grant Band 2, which provides a £1,500 reduction in the on-the-road (OTR) purchase price. As a result, the entry price for the Kia EV4 is now £33,245 with the grant applied, while the PV5 Passenger starts from £31,495.
Kia UK’s President and CEO, Paul Philpott, said the eligibility ‘comes at an important time’ as it coincides with the opening of Kia’s new PBV Centres and the delivery of the PV5: “We are delighted that Kia customers can now benefit from the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant. This milestone demonstrates our commitment to making electric mobility accessible, practical, and affordable. With the support of the grant, even more drivers can experience the innovation, reliability, and sustainability that Kia electric vehicles have become known for.”
Not all battery EVs are eligible for the Electric Car Grant scheme, as they must meet certain criteria in order to qualify. This includes being an M1 passenger vehicle, produce 0gCO2/km of tailpipe emissions, have a minimum battery range of 100 miles, a 3 year / 60,000 mile warranty, and be powered by a battery with an 8-year or 100,000 mile warranty. The majority of eligible EVs fall into the Band 2 category, although a handful currently qualify for the higher Band 1 grant of £3750 – including the Ford E-Tourneo Courier, the Nissan LEAF, the Renault 4 and others.
