MG Windsor becomes India’s best-selling electric car in 2025
The company has announced that it shipped 46,735 units of the MG Windsor in 2025. It launched the compact crossover in September 2024, and from the outset the model has seen strong traction. Sustained sales momentum pushed the new model to the top position on the electric car sales chart in its first full year of availability.
Monthly sales data shows that JSW MG Motor shipped well over 3,000 units of the MG Windsor almost every month in the first half of 2025. The company increased that figure to around 4,000 units in the latter half of the year.
JSW MG Motor is a mainstream automaker with one of the highest shares of electric vehicles in its model line-up. The company offers eight models, five of which are fully electric: Comet, Windsor, ZS EV, M9 and Cyberster. In 2025, it recorded a 19 per cent year-on-year growth across its overall portfolio, while its EV shipments alone rose by a significant 111 per cent compared to 2024.
Commenting on the achievement, JSW MG Motor Managing Director Anurag Mehrotra said, “The Windsor epitomises a contemporary automotive marvel that has redefined the EV segment with its practicality, technology, and futuristic design. It has successfully enabled the acceleration of EV adoption by converting fence-sitters to proud EV owners and is certainly a trendsetter within India’s EV revolution.”
JSW MG Motor is a joint venture in which China’s SAIC Motor holds a 49 per cent stake, while Indian companies own the remaining 51 per cent, with JSW Group holding the largest share at 35 per cent. The MG Windsor is a rebadged version of the Baojun Yunduo, which was developed by SAIC-GM-Wuling, a joint venture involving SAIC Motor in China. The company markets the low-cost compact crossover as the ‘Wuling Cloud EV’ in some international markets, including Indonesia and Hong Kong.
Against the backdrop of India’s efforts to limit Chinese investments in its auto industry, the MG Windsor becoming the country’s top-selling electric car is a notable outcome. The car’s competitive price-to-size ratio, comfortable and well-equipped interior, and competitive driving range appear to be the key factors behind its success.
