Vietnam: VinFast shatters domestic EV sales record in 2025

Vietnamese automaker VinFast has announced that it broke all previous sales records set by any carmaker in the domestic market with its EV-only line-up in 2025. The company says it sold a total of 175,099 EVs of all types in Vietnam last year.

From the VF 3 micro-SUV to the VF 9 full-size SUV, VinFast offers the widest range of electric cars in Vietnam. The company says it sold nearly twice as many cars last year as the previous record set by a foreign brand.

Passenger models accounted for the lion’s share of VinFast’s domestic EV sales last year. The company saw the highest demand for the VF 3, with 44,585 units delivered. The VF 5 small SUV finished close behind the micro-SUV, recording 43,913 units. The slightly bigger and more premium VF 6 subcompact SUV contributed 23,291 units.

Higher-end passenger models saw a much lower level of demand, though. The VF 7 compact SUV, for instance, registered only 9,653 units. From the commercial range, the Limo Green, a mid-size MPV that VinFast began selling in August, contributed 27,127 units. In December alone, it delivered 10,981 units of the electric people carrier in the domestic market. The Herio Green, which the company developed from the VF 5, saw sales of 12,568 units in 2025.

Compared to more than 87,000 EVs delivered in 2024, VinFast more than doubled its sales in 2025. Duong Thi Thu Trang, the Vice General Director of Global Automotive Sales at VinFast, said, “This is not only the result of our efforts to win over customers through product and service quality, but also affirms VinFast’s pioneering and leading role in the green transportation revolution that is strongly underway in Vietnam.”

VinFast is projecting more than 100% year-on-year growth in global sales as well. In a stock exchange filing earlier this month, it said that it expects deliveries to have approached 200,000 vehicles in 2025, compared to 97,399 units in 2024.

The Vietnamese automaker opened three new EV factories last year, including a 200,000-unit domestic plant in Ha Tinh and two overseas CKD plants: a 150,000-unit facility in India and a 350,000-unit facility in Indonesia. However, at the overseas CKD plants, it plans to build only up to 50,000 EVs annually in the first phase. At the existing domestic plant in Hai Phong, it rolled out the 200,000th EV on 31 December. Overall, however, VinFast is operating well below its installed production capacity.
