Nearly 1,200 new fast-charging points in Norway

The Norwegian Electric Vehicle Association (Norsk Elbilforening) has welcomed the availability of 10,670 fast-charging points, describing it as a record high and an excellent start to the year. “This is a milestone,” said Secretary General Christina Bu. “We reached 10,000 fast-charging points last summer, achieving the target set by the Norwegian authorities in their charging strategy. We are now seeing shorter queues at charging stations, and charging has become less daunting for electric vehicle drivers than before,.” The number of fast chargers for electric trucks has also risen significantly by 57, bringing the total to 254.

Statistically, there is now one fast-charging point for every 85 electric cars registered in Norway. A year earlier, 100 electric vehicles had to share a single fast-charging point. “We have never seen such a low ratio before, and this likely explains why fewer electric vehicle drivers are experiencing queues at charging stations. It also explains why charging providers are building fewer new stations than previously,” explained Christina Bu.

According to the survey ‘Elbilisten 2025,’ 42% of electric vehicle drivers reported experiencing queues at fast-charging stations in the past year. This represents a decline of 22 percentage points compared to the peak year of 2019, when 113 electric cars shared one fast-charging station. At the same time, electric vehicle drivers report spending less time in queues than before.

Norway has long been regarded as a pioneer in electric mobility and boasts an extremely high share of electric vehicles among new registrations: last year, battery-electric vehicles accounted for 95.9% of all newly registered passenger cars. This marks a further significant increase in the BEV share compared to 88.9% in 2024.
