EZO begins rollout of EV charging network in North Scotland
It’s the first stage of a 20-year contract which will see EZO (formerly EasyGo) install and operate 570 new charging points across the region by 2028. The contract itself is unique in being the first inter-council contract to have been awarded through the Scottish Government’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund, and in being the largest grant awarded by the fund.
Eventually, EZO will take over all 425 existing charging point in the region. To begin with, it will take over the aforementioned ChargePlace Scotland chargers in four council areas – namely Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Highland and Moray – will be migrated to the EZO platform. Existing ChargePlace users will now need to download the EZO app in order to access the network, which is free to use and provides real-time charger availability including for a range of roaming partners. Further down the line, work will begin on the 570 additional charging points.
EZO CEO Ollie Chatten said: “This is an exciting milestone for EZO as we bring our expertise to Scotland and begin delivering on this transformative contract. We’re making the migration as seamless as possible for drivers, while building a smarter, more connected charging network to support Scotland’s Net Zero ambitions.”
Aberdeenshire Council co-leader, Cllr Stewart Adams, said: “Migration of Aberdeenshire’s public charging units began on January 12th and will take place in three phases following the transitions in Aberdeen City and the Highlands. New charging infrastructure will start rolling out in 2026, with details on locations, charger types and installation plans to follow. Alongside expanding provision in towns that already have charge points, we’re delighted that smaller settlements across Aberdeenshire will also benefit from brand-new facilities.”
