Mazda and Changan team up to build electric SUV

Mazda and Changan join forces to develop EVs. The first electric model, an SUV is to launch on the Chinese mainland next year. Most of the electronic innards will come from Changan while Mazda will design the outer body.

Nissan to launch electric bus with Leaf technology

Japan will see the start of an electric bus project that will utilise technology of the Nissan Leaf. Headed by Kumamoto University testing of the Yoka ECO Bus is to commence this February. The bus comes with three electric drives, batteries as well as the inverter of Nissan’s bestselling EV.

Great Wall launches new EV brand Ora in China

China’s carmaker Great Wall starts a dedicated new energy vehicle brand in its homeland. Ora, or Oula in Chinese will debut at the Beijing Auto Show this April. Pictures have been leaked revealing Ora’s first EV.

Toyota cuts exclusive lithium deal with Orocobre

Toyota Tsusho, the trading arm of Toyota, has acquired a 15% share in Australian lithium miner Orocobre. The deal cost Toyota 232m dollars but the investment is to secure exclusive lithium supply for its future EV batteries.

15 new EV models from FAW’s Hongqi by 2025

Chinese carmaker FAW wants to launch 15 all-electric models under its Hongqi brand by 2025, and will kick start the effort with the first EV this year. By 2020, range may reach 600 kilometres as a standard with autonomy to increase gradually.

Japan aims for zero sales of ICEs by 2040

It looks like 2040 will be the year that finishes fossil-fuel powered vehicles off for good. Japan has now joined the growing circle of countries to set that deadline. Tokyo though wants to work with substantial incentives rather than penalties.
