CATL begins building cathode plant in Yichang

CATL has begun construction of a large industrial park in the Chinese city of Yichang for the production of battery materials for electric vehicles and the recycling of batteries. The first phase is scheduled to be commissioned in 2023 and the entire project completed in 2025.

SES scores exclusive supply deal for separators by ENTEK

Battery developer SES and ENTEK Membranes have announced an exclusive supply agreement for battery separator materials for SES’s recently unveiled hybrid lithium metal battery cell Apollo. The company is currently looking to scale up as it expects to supply GM and Hyundai-Kia in future.

Analysis shows battery price drop to $132 per kW/h

Analysts from BloombergNEF saw prices for lithium-ion battery packs fall by a further six per cent in 2021 YoY, to an average of 132 US dollars per kilo Watthour. In the electric vehicle segment, prices were even below the market average.

Mercedes & Stellantis invest in Factorial Energy

Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis have taken a stake in Factorial Energy, a US developer of solid-state battery cells. In addition to their financial participation, both carmakers have also agreed on development cooperations with Factorial Energy. Gotion High-Tech signs battery deal with Great Wall Motor

The Chinese battery cell manufacturer Gotion High-Tech has signed an off-take agreement with Great Wall Motor. Gotion will supply Great Wall with battery cells with a total capacity of at least ten GWh between 2022 and 2025. There are also rumours of another supply agreement with Nio – for their 150 kWh battery.
