EU Commission approves €3.2 billion for battery research
The European Commission has now approved funding totalling 3.2 billion euros for pan-European research and innovation projects by seven Member States in all segments of the battery value chain. Among others, Opel and BMW will benefit from the funds.

BMW opens Battery Competence Centre in Munich
BMW has opened its new Battery Cell Competence Centre in Munich-Milbertshofen. The centre will develop new battery cells, manufacture them on a prototype scale and test them. The Munich-based company is still not planning for in-house series production.

Graz researchers improve solid-state Li-Ion conductors
An international research team at the University of Technology in Graz presented a new solid electrolyte for batteries. Researchers from Tohoku University and Tokyo Tech developed solid-state batteries with low resistance at the electrode and solid electrolyte interface. They showed great electrochemical properties that surpass those of traditional Li-ion batteries.
