Ricardo & InoBat sign MoU for battery cooperation

UK engineering firm Ricardo has signed a memorandum of understanding with Slovakian battery company InoBat to jointly supply battery cells, modules and packs to high-performance automotive manufacturers for vehicle electrification programmes.

Vianode opens battery R&D centre in Norway

Vianode has opened a research and development centre for sustainable battery materials in Norway. The company sees the commissioning of the “Vianode Technology Center” in Kristiansand as an “important step towards establishing a complete battery value chain in Norway for the European market”.

GM announces cooperation with OneD Battery Sciences

General Motors has acquired a stake in battery developer OneD Battery Sciences and also signed a development agreement with the Californian company. The potential use of OneD’s silicon nanotechnology in the carmaker’s Ultium battery cells is to be discussed.

Our Next Energy presents 240-Ah cell with high energy density

The US battery start-up Our Next Energy (ONE), which is supported by BMW, has presented a large-format prismatic “anode-free” 240 Ah cell with an energy density of 1,007 Wh/l. This cell can also be manufactured much more cheaply. In addition, this cell is said to be significantly cheaper to manufacture.

VW to begin ID.4 production in the USA early

VW plans to start series production of the ID.4 at its US plant in Chattanooga in July and to bring the vehicles to dealers in “significant quantities” from September. That would be several months earlier than previously planned.

The German technical inspection agency TÜV Rheinland has opened its Battery Test Centre in Aachen. The facility is said to be the most modern independent test centre in Europe. Israeli battery developer StoreDot has reported progress in the stability of its fast-charging silicon-dominated battery cells. The company says it has exceeded 1,200 cycles with cells charged to 80 per cent in 15 minutes and then discharged for one hour.

Norway invests in sustainable battery production

The Norwegian government’s Green Platform initiative has approved around 100 million Norwegian kroner (about 9.8 million euros) to support the research project ‘Sustainable Materials for the Battery Value Chain’ to establish sustainable battery production in the country.
