Knorr-Bremse forms internal think-tank
Knorr-Bremse is pooling its expertise in electric transport with a new, in-house development unit called eCUBATOR. Up to 60 internal and external experts will work on electric commercial vehicle solutions at the Munich and Budapest sites.

BMW considers moving up i4 production
According to a media report, BMW brings forward the production start of the all-electric i4 from the year’s end to August or September. This means BMW could roll-out the first cars in Germany in 2021. In China, meanwhile, BMW has significantly reduced the price of its iX3 electric SUV.

Munich Airport runs Goldhofer eTug Phoenix E
Tractor specialist Goldhofer is on a high as they write a second order from a central airport. After Vienna Airport, Munich now too uses a zero-emission aircraft tow tractor by Goldhofer. Model Phoenix E is even stronger than the Bison as it tows large jets weighing up to 350 tons.

MAN finds eTGM truck promising for off-peak deliveries
MAN proves in Munich that e-trucks are suitable for inner-city driving at sensitive times. The test drives with the all-electric MAN eTGM truck showed a time saving of 15 to 30 per cent by shifting the time window of deliveries to the off-peak hours of the day.

39 electric MAN buses for Nuremberg
Public transport operator VAG Nürnberg has ordered 39 e-buses from Germany’s MAN Truck & Bus, including 28 Lion’s City 18 E and eleven Lion’s City 12 E. For MAN, this is the largest electric bus order to date and the company’s first order ever to include articulated e-buses.

MAN to focus on H2 trucks

Germany invests in battery research with Varta
Varta has now received funding positive decisions from the Germany federal government and the states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg concerning 300 million euros for projects involving battery cells. The subsidy was approved by the EU Commission in December 2019 and the decisions have now been sent to Varta.

Electric trucks are becoming a reality as two real-life trials progress in the UK and Germany. At Infineon’s Regensburg site, a purely electric truck now made it into regular operation after two weeks of successful testing. BMW to convert Munich plant for i4 production this summer
BMW will be closing its main plant in Munich for six weeks this summer to convert it to producing the all-electric BMW i4. The EV is scheduled to go into series production next year, still with battery cells bought in. However, this could change in future.
