XEV launches serial production of 3-D printed mini-EV

The Italian start-up XEV unveiled the production version of its 3D-printed electric small car Yoyo at the IAA Mobility. Sales are now also starting on the home market in Italy. At a minimum of 13,900 euros before subsidies, prices are significantly higher than originally announced.

Nio launches European debut of the ET7

Renault appears to be willing to break up its electric van joint venture in China. According to news agencies, the French company was in advanced talks to end its JV with China’s state-backed Brilliance, which was established at the end of 2017.

Rising sales for BEVs and PHEVs built in China

China’s electric car manufacturers recorded rising sales figures for electric cars and plug-in hybrids in August. BYD surpassed the 60,000 new electric vehicle (NEV) sales mark for the first time. By comparison, Tesla sold 44,264 of its vehicles manufactured in China last month.

Performance ID.3 could release in 2022

VW is also planning a performance variant for the ID.3. Brand manager Ralf Brandstätter confirmed this in an interview on the sidelines of the IAA. The basis for the model, presumably called ID.3 GTX, is already known.

First ship fitted with ZES battery containers hits the water

The Dutch company Zero Emission Services (ZES) has launched the first vessel bearing its exchangeable battery containers, so-called ZES packs, onboard, effectively turning the ship into an electric boat. The Alphenaar now operates between Alphen aan den Rijn and Moerdijk on behalf of the Heineken brewery.

Seven UK police forces trialling Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford has unveiled a Mustang Mach-E police concept at the Emergency Services Show in Birmingham, following several requests from forces around the country to evaluate the electric SUV. Seven UK forces have either tested the fully electric patrol car or have inquired about the specially-built prototype.

Alstom debuts battery-electric train in Germany

A battery-electric train by Alstom has completed its maiden voyage on a rail route in Saxony, Germany. The prototype train developed together with TU Berlin started on a roundtrip in the city of Chemnitz. Electric trains of this type are scheduled to go into passenger service from December 2021.

Toyota announces major battery investment

Toyota plans to invest a total of 1.5 trillion yen (about 11.5 billion euros) in expanding its battery production and battery development by 2030. In addition, Toyota is increasing its battery production target from 180 GWh to at least 200 GWh by 2030.

Nissan joins race to reclaim mini EV segment

Nissan has announced plans to launch a new battery-electric mini-vehicle in Japan in early 2022. The small EV is part of a joint project with Mitsubishi and will have a nominal battery capacity of 20 kWh, which helps to keep the price down. However, competition at least overseas will be tough.

Microlino 2.0 launches with three battery options

Micro Mobility Systems presented the series Microlino 2.0 at the IAA Mobility. The light electric vehicle will be available in the three editions Urban, Dolce and Competizione and with three battery versions for a range of 95, 175 and 230 kilometres respectively. Production is set to start this year.

Atlis signs distributer AusMV to sell XT pickup in SEA

US manufacturer Atlis Motor Vehicles has found a distributor in the Southeast Asia and Oceania region as the company announces a collaboration agreement with Australian Manufactured Vehicles (AusMV). AusMV will buy XT pickup trucks and complete right-hand drive production in Australia.
