EV and PHEV sales in Canada.
In Canada, 6,933 EV and PHEV were sold last year. That is a 32 percent increase compared to 2014, when 5,235 Canadians opted for electric cars. The Model S proved the nations favourite (2,010 sales), followed by the Nissan Leaf (1,427 units) and the Chevy Volt (1,538 units).

Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt sales in the U.S.
A total of 2,104 Nissan Leaf were delivered in the U.S. in May, bringing the year’s total to 7,742. While the Leaf is now the best-selling plug-in vehicle in the U.S., Chevy reported its best month since last August for the first-generation Volt. 1,618 units were sold in May, bringing the 2015 total to 4,397.

Video tip: This is not something you see every day – a Tesla Model S is struck by lightning while charging! Though instead of getting a power boost, the car shut down and it took technicians a whole day to get it back up and running, especially because it would not let go of that charging cable.

October 2014 sales in the U.S.
A total of 2,589 Nissan Leaf were sold in the U.S. in October, another monthly sales record. That brings this year’s sales there to 24,411 units and the total of Nissan Leaf sold in the country to 66,533. The Chevy Volt had a difficult month, selling only 1,439 units, as people are probably awaiting the new model.

September 2014 sales in the U.S.
Nissan sold 2,881 Leaf in the States in October. This is almost a 50-percent increase over last September’s sales but less than in record breaking August (3,186). Chevrolet’s Volt found only 1,394 American buyers, making September one of its weakest months to date.

While you might have dreamed about partly powering your home with your car’s battery, this Chevrolet dealer solved the more pressing problem of his broken internet connection by simply logging onto the 4G hotspot of the 2015 Volt. The temporary solution has become permanent now and serves as yet another EV sales pitch.

San Francisco’s Mayor Ed Lee is driving a Chevy Volt, which in general is a good thing. The EV has been spotted though repeatedly breaking, or say bending the rules and the drivers never having to pay the fine. Lee is not taking any responsibility as his office claims that it is not the mayor himself driving the Volt. However, wouldn’t a bit of the right behaviour make his electric example so much better?!

More than half a billion miles have been travelled electrically in the Chevy Volt since its introduction in December 2010. GM got its data from a fleet of about 47,000 owners which have agreed to be monitored via the OnStar system.

Video tip I: Every day is like Mother’s Day at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. Since the first Volt rolled off the assembly line there in 2009, the mother-daughter duo Evetta Osborne and Monique Watson has installed the battery pack of almost every Voltec car on the road today. That of course includes the Opel Ampera, Vauxhall Ampera, Holden Volt, and Cadillac ELR – more than 80,000 and counting.

A Florida couple fell victim to what could be dubbed as e-mobbing. They were charging their Chevy Volt when an unknown perpetrator cut the cord! The Volt sent a last distress signal to its owners, who highly suspect their neighbours.
