Model S struck by lightning, Chevy Volt configurator.
Video tip: This is not something you see every day – a Tesla Model S is struck by lightning while charging! Though instead of getting a power boost, the car shut down and it took technicians a whole day to get it back up and running, especially because it would not let go of that charging cable.
Click tip: If you were to get the new Chevy Volt, what should it look like? You can now play with the idea using the new configurator, which just recently went live.

Electric Vehicle Dealership Award, Nikola Tesla Science Centre.
Reading tip 1: This makes the heart of every plug-in fan beat a little faster! On third of all cars sold at the Bourgeois Chevrolet of Rawdon dealership in Quebec this year were Chevy Volts. The company was therefore given Canada’s first annual Electric Vehicle Dealership Award.
Reading tip 2: Transport Evolved takes a trip to the future site of the Nikola Tesla Science Centre and museum – in a Tesla Roadster (of course). Other Tesla drivers also came to the “Tesla meets Tesla” event, all in an effort to raise funds for the science centre.

Study tip: IDTechEx projects that the market for electric and hybrid vehicles for the construction, agriculture and mining sectors will be worth 30 billion dollars by 2025. According to the new report, i.e. tractors in agriculture will be electric in volume quantities by 2025.
Over 1 billion miles have been driven with Chevrolet Volts, according to GM’s Volt ticker. 629 millions of those miles were fully electric, which translates into more than 32 million gallons of fuel saved.
Electric cars are more versatile than even we thought. While you might have dreamed about partly powering your home with your car’s battery, this Chevrolet dealer solved the more pressing problem of his broken internet connection by simply logging onto the 4G hotspot of the 2015 Volt. The temporary solution has become permanent now and serves as yet another EV sales pitch.
San Francisco’s Mayor Ed Lee is driving a Chevy Volt, which in general is a good thing. The EV has been spotted though repeatedly breaking, or say bending the rules and the drivers never having to pay the fine. Lee is not taking any responsibility as his office claims that it is not the mayor himself driving the Volt. However, wouldn’t a bit of the right behaviour make his electric example so much better?!
Chevy Volt electric miles.
More than half a billion miles have been travelled electrically in the Chevy Volt since its introduction in December 2010. GM got its data from a fleet of about 47,000 owners which have agreed to be monitored via the OnStar system.
Chevy Volt batteries, BMW i3 review.
Video tip I: Every day is like Mother’s Day at the GM Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. Since the first Volt rolled off the assembly line there in 2009, the mother-daughter duo Evetta Osborne and Monique Watson has installed the battery pack of almost every Voltec car on the road today. That of course includes the Opel Ampera, Vauxhall Ampera, Holden Volt, and Cadillac ELR – more than 80,000 and counting.
Video tip II: MotorTorque tested the BMW i3 and put together a nice video review in which they called it the most appealing electric car yet. What’s your take?
Siemens/BAIC, BMW i8 test drive, Chevy Volt.
Video tip: Siemens and BAIC are to form a joint venture for the development of electric drives (we reported). Here is the official announcement from the Beijing Auto Show.
Test drive BMW i8: On a more professional note is Mark Vaughn’s review of the hybrid super car. He was, however, similarly enthused by what he calls the “world’s fourth-fastest hybrid” and the most affordable one too, when comparing it to the likes of Porsche and Ferrari.
Reading tip: Will the new Chevrolet Volt mark the end of the Opel Ampera as we know it? Darren Moss from Autocar speculates that the Volt’s new drivetrain could also get used in a more European-friendly car from Opel.

War of the cable.
A Florida couple fell victim to what could be dubbed as e-mobbing. They were charging their Chevy Volt when an unknown perpetrator cut the cord! The Volt sent a last distress signal to its owners, who highly suspect their neighbours.
Friend or foe.
Comparing snakes with brussel’s sprouts makes about as much sense as putting up an all-electric car against a mostly-electric car. Ironically, this is exactly what GM is doing with its new Volt spot. How about picking at the big gas guys first next time?!

Chevrolet Volt Review, Hybrids in Jamaica.
Video tip: Chris Harris reviews the Chevrolet Volt and while first speaking of “controversy” he soon calls it a “game changer” that has the potential to make people very happy, especially in suburbia.
Reading tip: The uptake of hybrids in Jamaica is very slow and dealers know the reasons. One is that people are worrying about were to charge the new hybrids even though the cars on offer have no plug.
