Sporting a 92.4 kWh battery pack, it is said to go 533 km and charge up to 80 percent in just 30 minutes at a 150 kW charging station. The all-wheel drive boasts 225 kW, allowing BUDD-e to go from 0-100 kph in about seven seconds. Moreover, it is Volkswagen’s first car based on the new MEB architecture.

Gogoro update: The company has sold 4,000th electric scooters and opened 125 battery swapping stations in Taiwan. Gogoro now looks to expand to Amsterdam this summer, and will then work on getting a foot in the door on the U.S. market. In countries without swapping stations, Gogoro offers a charger for its scooter.

New BYD bus: The Chinese manufacturer unveiled its K10A, especially designed for the Brazilian market. It is BYD’s first 15 metre bus. Tax free EV: Indian state Maharashtra has scrapped taxes for electric vehicles, meaning they are not subject to value added tax (VAT), road tax or registration fees when bought in the state. At the moment, the Mahindra Reva e2o is the only electric car sold in Maharashtra.

1m electrified cars by 2020: South Korea set its million target within the decade as the government wants to push sales of electric and hybrid cars to reach 20 percent of all new cars. To reach the ambitious goal – electrified cars currently count for two percent of the market in Korea – 150 billion won (127.5m dollars) will be spend on R&D and some 1,400 charging stations will be built across the country.

VW to electrify the U.S.? The new leaders of Volkswagen met with its third-largest shareholder. The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) that holds a 17 percent stake in VW expects answers to the diesel-rigging scandal such as a multibillion-dollar campaign to promote electric vehicles in the United States.

BMW-i3-Smart-HomeElectric shift at BMW: Harald Krüger, CEO of BMW, sets sail for an electric future in an interview with German Handelsblatt. As diesel becomes increasingly uneconomical, the i3 as well as i8 models will be further developed and eventually joined by another electric model. Krüger further announced the introduction of fuel cell technology at BMW with the help of Toyota. BMW will set out its strategy for the coming ten years next spring.

Mitsubishi to electrify USA: The Japanese carmaker rethinks its positioning in the States as it promises the Outlander PHEV by mid-2016 and a fully electric version by 2019. Furthermore, three future crossovers will receive electrified drive trains. The i-MiEV, however is likely to be discontinued.

Electric Citroën: Once teased during the IAA, the French carmaker is finally ready to unveil the e-Mehari on 7 Dec at COP21 currently taking place in Paris. Rumours suggest the new EV might be a convertible. Launch is set for March 2016.

Range extended Nissan EV: By 2016, Nissan plans to reveal what it calls a “serial hybrid” or range extender, Motoring reports. The small motor will only serve to charge the battery of an electric car, which is yet to be introduced. The Leaf is to remain solely electric.

Battery swap range: Korean Leo Motors presents five new electric vehicles that range from an electric cargo one-seater, over a delivery and garbage truck to two electric fishing boats. All these EVs can only be acquired without battery as the firm introduces its so-called Battery Swap Centres.

Wage war at BYD: The Chinese EV maker has been accused of not paying a living wage to its workers in Los Angeles by a coalition of labour groups. BYD denies the allegations and defends its pay levels by pointing to an exemption in its agreement with the city. The latter is investigating the case.

Tesla beats stock sale target: The carmaker raised 738.3 million dollars in its secondary stock sale, more than 230 million above the original target. Top underwriters include Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, who together bought just over 2.1 million shares. The cash will flow into the upcoming Model X and Model 3, as well as the Gigafactory in Nevada.

Hands to hire: Martin Leach, former Ford Europe COO, is looking to recruit staff for a secret new electric car manufacturer that will be mainly based in China and California. Leach revealed that although this company does not have “a background in the car industry” and is also looking into self-driving cars, it is not linked to Apple.

Citroën to present EV? According to L’Automobile Magazine, Citroën has registered the name e-Mehari, sparking rumours that the carmaker could presents an electric car based on its C4 Cactus and the legendary beach car Mehari at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. So far, no additional information has been released.

Made in South Africa: South African-based company Big Boss announced that it will unveil an electric car within the next six months, priced at around 20,000 euros. The car will initially be built in China, but once the company sold its first 1,000 units, it wants to bring production back to South Africa.

New Toyota Prius uncovered: Pictures of the next-generation of Toyota’s famous hybrid are already circling the web ahead of the official presentation set for September 8th. And the new Prius caught on camera was totally uncovered!

Danes to keep up tax exemption? The country’s conservative party is pushing for tax exemption of electric vehicles to be extended for at least 2 years, in order to support market and infrastructure investments. The Danish government is already looking into maintaining the perk, which was meant to expire at the end of the year (we reported).

2nd life project: Mitsubishi is joining forces with EDF, Forsee Power, and PSA Peugeot Citroën to set up a demonstration project for deploying used EV batteries in energy storage. The partners will look at energy management practices based on electricity storage, charging and generation technology with i-MiEV, Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero batteries.

Park only when you charge: British Bedford is cracking down on non-electric cars parking in front of charging stations, ordering its wardens to hand out tickets. Irish Limerick is only setting up six of such sole EV parking spaces but might soon be forced to do the same.

Electric Highway: Australia’s Royal Automobile Club (RAC) is going ahead with its Electric Highway Plan in Western Australia. Six EV fast-charging stations have been erected, another six will follow. Charging is free of charge until the end of the year.

From Australia comes a prototype of a 50 seater electric bus. Transit, the Australian company behind it, hopes to produce locally but partners with the Malaysian government that already invested 170 million dollars in infrastructure based on the new bus.

EV incentives limited: Washington State extended its plug-in vehicle tax breaks for another year but plans to exclude electric cars that cost more than 35,000 dollars. That means Tesla, as well as the BMW i3 would then have to be paid in full. The bill has yet to be signed.

BMW may plan new PHEV: According to the Australian website Motoring, the next BMW X3 model expected for 2016 will also become available as a plug-in hybrid variant with an all-electric range of 50 kilometres. It could feature a 67 kW electric motor and a turbocharged four-cylinder combustion engine, giving it a combined output of around 245 kW.

All need to electrify: The California Air Resources Board announced that even small carmakers will have to comply with clean-car rules, denying the request of Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Volvo to be exempt from the rules. The decision will allow the five smaller automakers, all of which have less than 40 billion dollars in annual global revenue, to have the option of selling plug-in hybrids to earn credits towards compliance, rather than being forced to sell pure EVs.

Formula-E-BerlinCitroën Formula E update: Rumours that the French carmaker will take part in the second Formula E season are becoming more concrete. Motorsport.com has learned that a Citroën Formula E test took place earlier this month close to Paris. The carmaker is said to join Richard Branson’s Virgin racing team next year. The official announcement is expected during the ePrix finale in London at the end of June.

New scooter from China: Li Yinan, former chief technology officer of China’s largest internet search company Baidu, and his new company Niu introduced an electric scooter called “N1 smart e-scooter” to the Chinese market. The Vespa-like two-wheeler features a Bosch motor and weighs only 10 kilos. It could also become available in Europe at a later date.

From furniture to EVs: Danish newspaper Finans reports that Lars Larsen, owner of the internationally operating Danish retail chain Jysk, which is selling household goods, plans to produce electric utility vehicles for municipalities, public offices, parks and camping sites and to sell the EVs worldwide. Apparently the planning stage is all wrapped up and first deals have already been signed.

Driving the Beetle Dune Hybrid concept: John Voelker from Green Car Concepts took the bug for a spin and found the ride rather bumpy, feeling the weight of the hybrid drivetrain also used in the Jetta. He believes the concept is really a way for VW to say “Look, we can put our hybrid powertrain in a bunch of different vehicles–including this one.”

New base Model S: Tesla upgrades the 60-kWh Model S and will offer a more expensive and more powerful version. The new Model S 70D costs 75,000 dollars, 4,000 more than the previous entry EV, but is equipped with AWD and a 70-kWh battery said to deliver 15 percent more range (240 miles). The Model S 70D also features more power (234 kW) and Supercharger equipment as standard.

Electric camper update: New details on VW’s allegedly planned Bulli EV have been unearthed by German Auto Bild. By 2018, the all-electric Bulli would come equipped with the 85-kW drive from the e-Golf. The company thinks a range of 400 km could be possible due to advances in battery technology.

Benefit fraudsters? Dutch paper Financieele Dagblad reports that an unusually high number of EVs (about 1,000) bought with subsidies had been exported to be sold as second hand cars despite being less than a year old, with many of them ending up in Norway. As such they reach high prices while being toll-free. The Dutch finance ministry will now look into the issue.

Zotye EV update: The Chinese manufacturer released images of its EV destined for the domestic market. The E01 that is to debut at Auto Shanghai will also be offered as E02 with four doors. While the design seem to reminisce about the Smart fortwo, inside a big touch screen hints at bigger idols.

It is official, Rolls-Royce will build a luxury SUV, following customer demand. A launch in 2017 is likely, as is a plug-in hybrid variant, Auto Express reports. The portal expects prices to start at 250,000 GBP (385,000 dollars) – it is a Royce after all.

Citroen-Berlingo-2016Berlingo Electric facelift: Citroën has issued pictures showing the new Berlingo which is to debut at the Geneva Motor Show. The new model will again be offered with an electric drive, that powers the mini van with 49 kW. Range is out at about 106 miles.

Porsche-Panamera-Hybrid-ChargingMeet the electric Porsche: Industry insider Georg Kacher delivers an update on the 717 aka the “Tesla fighter”. According to his sources, this purely electric Porsche will be driven by two electric motors powering the front and rear and will be able to go for at least 300 miles on one charge. However, the Porsche 717 still has a long way to go as its launch is set for 2019 at the earliest. Inductive charging technology will be developed by VW and the American Quantumspace.

iCar update: Apparently, Apple’s Titan project (we reported) is much more than “just” an electric car. It is a “software game” instead as the company is looking into autonomous vehicle technology, Reuters reports quoting inside sources. The IT giant is said to be in talks with automotive experts.

Plug-in Chrysler in 2016: Chrysler’s ‘Town&Country’ minivan has been confirmed as plug-in hybrid for next year, a spokesperson for Fiat Chrysler said at the Chicago Auto Show. If all goes to plan, the PHEV minivan will be introduced at the NAIAS in Detroit in January 2016.

Porsche Cayenne to premier: The Cayenne S E-Hybrid will debut next week in Paris and it is already the third plug-in hybrid from the German automaker. While the petrol engine is the same as in the old Cayenne, the PHEV features an electric motor with 70 kW that brings the system’s power to 416 hp.

Plug-in Phaeton? According to Automotive News, VW insiders say that the second generation Phaeton will be offered with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain for the 2018 or 2019 model year. Furthermore, the then 400-hp sedan is likely to make a reappearance in the U.S. where the Phaeton is expected to start at 70,000 dollars.

Price drop for hybrids: New subsidies by the South Korean government will make the eight hybrid models offered in the country cheaper. The local top-sellers Hyundai YF Sonata, Kia K5, Toyota Prius and Lexus CT200h will supposedly benefit the most from the new measures.

Compressed Air Hybrid: Citroen is to present its Cactus Airflow 2l Concept at its home show in Paris. Like the Peugeot 208 Hybrid Air concept (we reported), it is driven by a compressed-air hybrid system and is said to consume only two litres per 100 kilometres as per European test cycle.

Hyundai to promote hydrogen: The South Korean company is working with the US Department of Energy (DoE) and the House Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Caucus at promoting fuel-cell technology in the States. Hyundai started leasing the first FCV in the U.S., its Tuscon Fuel Cell, earlier this year.

Update BMW 7: The German carmaker released more details about its new 7-series, which will weigh about 200 kg less than its predecessor as it uses carbon, Autocar reports. Furthermore, it will indeed be offered as a plug-in hybrid right from the start, just as rumours had it.

Bugatti promises 1,500 hp for its new hybrid Veyron, set for 2016. It will also feature an updated version of the 8-litre V16 engine, which will go from 0 to 100 kph in 2.3 seconds and comes with a top speed of 460 kph – enough to blow the likes of Porsche or McLaren away.

Mondeo Hybrid orders open: Europeans can now order the Ford which was initially expected half a year ago. The Mondeo is also available as a hybrid which couples a two-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery with 1.4 kWh.

Citroën hybrid spotted: Pictures show the Numero 9 concept car at a dealership in Shanghai, China. It is the model which will probably go into serial production as Citroën DS9 and was first shown at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show and is destined for the Chinese market.

Twizy Down Under: So far, only one Twizy has reached Australian shores and currently sits in the foyer of Renault’s offices. There, it sparks interest among customers but not more as the Twizy is not allowed for road use in Australia.
