Romania orders 16 electric bendy-buses from Solaris

The Polish bus manufacturer Solaris and the Romanian city of Craiova have signed a contract for the delivery of 16 Urbino 18 electric electric buses. The articulated vehicles are scheduled to arrive in Craiova in the first half of 2021.

Frankfurt to receive 13 electric buses from Ebusco

The Dutch manufacturer Ebusco will deliver 13 new electric buses to Frankfurt am Main for operator Transdev Rhein-Main at the end of this year to replace the current diesel buses. These are the 12-metre long Ebusco 2.2 low-floor versions.

BYD delivers 15 electric buses in Madrid

BYD delivered 15 electric buses to the Spanish capital this week. The new electric buses will be replacing diesel buses and will go into operation on line 52 between Puerta del Sol and Santamarca.

China announces new EV safety standards

The Chinese government has issued three national standards on safety requirements for electric vehicles and their batteries, which will come into force on 1 January 2021. One of the standards relates to electric vehicles in general, another specifically to electric buses and the third to traction batteries.

MAN Truck & Bus reveal articulated electric bus details

MAN Truck & Bus is now giving details of its MAN Lion’s City 18 E articulated electric bus. The manufacturer has just announced that sales of the new model already started and in Cologne and Barcelona, the articulated e-bus is now also being integrated into regular service.

Lublin orders more electric buses from Solaris

The Polish city of Lublin has ordered further electric buses from Solaris. The order from the municipal transport operator ZTM comprises a dozen Solaris Urbino 12 electric. This is the second order from Lublin within a few months for the Polish manufacturer.

Leipzig public transport goes electric

The Leipzig transport authority (LVB) has ordered their first electric buses for use in regular service and awarded the contract to the Dutch manufacturer VDL Bus & Coach. They are to supply 21 electric buses to Saxony by the end of this year.

Vienna buses to go electric next year

In Austria, Viennese public transport operator Wiener Linien will launch tenders for 62 purely battery-electric buses and ten hydrogen fuel cell buses next year. The first vehicles included in the tender are to be put in passenger service from 2023. By 2027 at the latest, a total of 82 buses should have alternative drive systems.

ACEA, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, has published the registration figures in the EU for buses, trucks (from 3.5 tonnes) and vans in 2019 by type of drive. While the figures for buses and trucks have more than doubled, the electric vehicle segment has grown much more slowly.

Keolis awarded electric bus operation in Copenhagen

Public transport operator Keolis has received a new order from Movia for the operation and maintenance of 47 buses in the Copenhagen area, 32 of which will be purely electric. The contract, worth over €100 million, is scheduled to start in June 2021.

Further electric bus contracts for Solaris in Poland

The Municipal Transport Company (PKM) from the Polish city of Jaworzno is buying 20 additional electric buses and has awarded the contract to Solaris. The contract provides for the delivery of 15 Urbino 12 electric and five low-floor Urbino 8.9 LE electric.

Cooperation for inductive charging of e-buses

The US charging system developer Momentum Dynamics, which specializes in wireless charging for electric vehicles, is cooperating with the North American vehicle manufacturer GreenPower Motor. They aim to integrate Momentum Dynamics’ inductive charging technology into GreenPower’s EV Star shuttle bus and to distribute it in the USA, Canada and Europe.
