Toyota & SinoHytec found fuel cell joint venture

Toyota is founding another joint venture for commercial vehicles with fuel cells in China. The new joint venture, in which Toyota and fuel cell specialist SinoHytec each hold a 50 per cent stake, will focus on the production and sale of FC systems.

Ballard Power Systems announced that Canadian Pacific would employ Ballard fuel cell modules for its Hydrogen Locomotive Program. The HLP aims to develop North America’s first hydrogen-powered line-haul freight locomotive by retrofitting a diesel locomotive with fuel cells.

The South Korean steel company Posco wants to significantly expand its production capacity for bipolar plates for use in fuel cell vehicles. The production of fuel cell bipolar plates is to be expanded to 10,000 tonnes per year by 2027.

US hydrogen engineering firm HyPoint has unveiled the first working prototype of its air-cooled hydrogen fuel cell for electric aircraft. The Californian startup plans to start selling the fuel cells to aerospace and eVTOL customers as early as 2022.

Scottish bus builder Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) has announced its next-generation hydrogen double-decker bus. Developed under the project name H2.0, the model is due to hit the roads this year and will have a range of up to 300 miles, or around 480 km.

Ballard Power Systems has received a follow-up order from the Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool. This involves the delivery of further fuel cell modules for ten H2 buses, which are to be used from 2022 as part of the JIVE 2 support program in Emmen, the Netherlands.
