BorgWarner announces multiple awards + EV revenue

US automotive supplier BorgWarner has announced multiple electrification awards. These include two deals involving electric motors and inverters with two Chinese companies respectively, as well as battery management systems for commercial vehicles from a “leading global vehicle manufacturer.”

7,207 new battery-electric cars registered in Norway over April

In Norway, 7,207 new electric passenger cars were registered in April, which corresponds to a share of 74.1 per cent among all new passenger car registrations for the month. In addition, 982 new plug-in hybrids were registered. In the model ranking, none of the usual vehicles were ahead in April.

Aston Martin to release first BEV model in 2025

Aston Martin has specified its electrification strategy. The first plug-in hybrid will be the mid-engine supercar Valhalla, which is scheduled for delivery from early 2024. Aston Martin’s first battery-electric vehicle will be launched in 2025.

BAE Systems takes orders for 340 hybrid drive systems

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has selected BAE Systems to supply up to 340 hybrid electric drive systems for its new fleet of low emission transit buses. BAE Systems will provide 220 electric drive systems to New Flyer of America, with an option for 120 additional systems, over the next three years.

In Norway, 13,803 new electric cars were registered in December. The share of electric cars among all new registrations was 67.1 per cent. In addition, there were 4,706 new plug-in hybrids. Norway’s most successful model in December was the Tesla Model Y with 2,379 registrations.

Canada is investing in its EV subsidy programme

The Government of Canada is funnelling more money into its Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) programme. An additional $73 million will be added to Transport Canada’s budget to offer purchase incentives for zero-emission vehicles until the end of March 2022, when the next federal budget is due.

US to tighten emissions regulation in 2026

In the US, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set emissions requirements for new passenger cars and light-duty trucks through model year 2026. The new regulations come into effect with the 2023 model year and require a 28.3 per cent reduction in vehicle emissions by 2026.
