Juergen-Stackmann“Paris marks the start of a new era for Volkswagen.”

VW sales director Jürgen Stackmann talks about the concept announced for the Paris Motor Show, which he dubs as “Das neue Auto” or an electric car for the people. The EV shall be on price par with a comparable diesel model.

anonym“The Qin and Tang are very viable in Shanghai. That has given SAIC and GM the motivation to compete.”

Martin Murray, deputy director for electrification engineering at GM China, underlines GM’s ambitions. It looks like the Americans are out to take on BYD head on.

Li-Keqiang“By bringing a series of products such as, energy storage, solar power, bus, electric truck, taxi, and customer car to Brazil, BYD will cover whole South America market.”

Meanwhile, BYD is off to new shores as the firm’s senior vice president Li Keqiang suggests.

Dale Vince, Li Keqiang, Shayle Kann.

Dale-Vince“There will come a time when people will laugh at the idea that instead of producing our own energy from free wind and sunshine, we used to pay someone else to do it; when they will be shocked that we used to send billions of pounds overseas every year to foreign governments just for the privilege of burning their natural resources and polluting our planet; when people will watch their carbon footprint like we watch our weight.”

Ecotricity founder Dale Vince is trying to evoke a change of perspective in his fellow Britons ahead of the UK elections. A Labour supporter himself, Vince calls for VAT-free EVs and the decarbonisation of the energy industry. His plan is backed by Cambridge Econometrics’ research.

Li-Keqiang“Positive energy will always win! Finally, we won the Long Beach Trans order — the only difference now is that the order is for 60 instead of 20! Cheers!”

Li Keqiang, senior vice president of BYD, is looking at the bright side of things and rightly so, as his company eventually did win the bid for Long Beach’s electric buses after first being setback by bureaucracy and what looked like protectionism.

Shayle-Kann“Tesla’s not the only one doing it, but Tesla can bring it to a wider audience than most other people can. Once they get the Gigafactory up and going, they will be able to deploy on a scale that no one will quite be able to rival. So they may have a cost advantage in that.”

Shayle Kann, vice president at GTM Research, on the Tesla’s PowerPacks that he believes will make quite a difference in the energy storage market in the future.

Li Keqiang, Nick Clegg, Toru Tokushige.

Li-Keqiang“The government should play an exemplary role.”

China’s Premier Li Keqiang issued a statement online, acknowledging the advantages of clean vehicles like e-buses for keeping pollution and noise levels down. He is calling on “everyone”, including his government, to make use of them.

Nick-Clegg“Electric cars are one of the most promising of our green industries and we want to secure the UK’s position as a global leader in both the production and adoption of these vehicles.”

Apparently, China is not the only country updating their EV policies. Nick Clegg, Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister, just announced another nine million pounds (14.8m dollars) to top up the GoUltraLow campaign.

Toru-Tokushige“We are planning to also provide the premium scooter and this will be a pretty good market. So I can say about 10,000 units, that’s how much we are planning to produce.”

Toru Tokushige, founder and CEO of Terra Motors, has high hopes for the Indian market and even sees chances to produce some of the components in India.
