London Black Cab rival en route to Coventry

Ford patents on offer: Ford is opening up about 650 patents on hybrid and electric car technologies. While Tesla and Toyota were the first to make their respective technical knowledge available for free, Ford is asking competitors to pay a fee. Furthermore, the company plans to hire 200 more electrified-vehicle engineers this year.

Daimler batteries: The German carmaker is swiftly following Tesla as it announces that its first stationary batteries for private households will launch this summer. Together with EnBW, deliveries are to start this autumn. The batteries will be manufactured by Daimler’s subsidiary Accumotive.

Renault Eolab on hold: The light-weight PHEV Renault first presented at the Paris Auto Show 2014 is production-ready. However, Renault faces cost and market acceptance obstacles and is thus delaying Eolab production until “the market is ready,” chief performance officer Jerome Stoll said.
Metrocab to go into production: Frazer Nash, the makers of the Range-Extended Electric Metrocab for London, have entered a production partnership with Multimatic and will start volume production in Coventry next year. 50 million pounds will be invested in taking the new Metrocab to production.
Prius spy shot: The next generation of Toyota’s pioneering hybrid has been spied doing test runs in Thailand but is still heavily camouflaged. The new Prius will be presented to the public before the year’s end.
Mahindra double hit: The Indian manufacturer now confirmed to be launching both the Verito electric and the XUV500 Hybrid in its domestic market. The plans rely on the Indian government´s EV scheme.

Reading tip: Researchers show that electric cars emit significantly less heat than petrol-powered vehicles. They used Beijing in summer of 2012 to calculate that switching vehicles from gas to electricity could reduce the heat island intensity by nearly 1 degree Celsius.
Video tip: The Metrocab, the new electric taxi with range extender for London, seems popular with its customers. It has a complete range of 560 kilometres, allowing the driver to save 20 to 40 pounds in fuel cost per day. The vehicles have been operating in London as a test fleet since last November

Symbio FCell, London, Nova Bus, Electric Circuit.
Electric Kangoo with fuel cell: As part of a project lead by the Conseil Général de la Manche, Symbio FCell has delivered the first five Renault Kangoo Z.E. with fuel cell range extenders. Another 35 will follow soon. The Symbio FCell technology supposedly nearly doubles the vehicle’s range.
Testing electric black cabs: The first range-extended Electric Motorcabs have now gone on trial in London. They are powered by two electric motors and a small combustion engine used to recharge the battery pack or provide power directly to the motors. Metrocab has announced that there will be no price premium over the current diesel-powered black cabs.
Hybrid bus testing in Quebec: The hybrid bus from Nova Bus has been successfully tested in Montreal already and will now have to hold up against rough winter climate and topography in Quebec City. The bus can switch from diesel to diesel-electric and even run in full-electric mode.
Canadian Electric Circuit continues to grow: During the Montreal Auto Show, the Electric Circuit announced more charging stations to come. While 125 new charging stations were promised during the first few days, Hybrid Cars has made a list of the other smaller announcements.
