Tesla tops delivery and production records in Q2 2019

Tesla appears to have recovered from a more disappointing Q1 as the electric car firm says it set new production and delivery records during the second quarter of this year. Stocks surged 7% as a response. Tesla also hinted at a strong Q3, saying it has a backlog of orders.

Tesla may narrowly miss a record-breaking quarter

The American electric car manufacturer Tesla wanted to break its record of 90,700 vehicles delivered in the second quarter. However, Tesla is likely to miss the target by a narrow margin. Apparently, Tesla’s head of production, Peter Hochholdinger, has also left the Californian electric car company.

Streaming while charging

For obvious reasons, Tesla blocked the video streaming options for the displays in their vehicles. However, an innovative Tesla owner managed to get the popular video stream platform Netflix running on the touch screen of his Model 3.

In April the Tesla Model S and Model X received some improvements. Pre-produced vehicles without these improvements will be sold until the end of June with an added treat: free supercharging. There is also news regarding the pickup and roadster.

Tesla aiming for record number of deliveries in Q2

It seems that Tesla may be having a new record quarter in vehicle deliveries. As Elon Musk wrote in an e-mail to employees, there is a good chance that the current quarter will see 90,700 deliveries exceed the record level reached in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Tesla presents CCS adapters for Model S & X

Tesla is now offering the promised CCS adapters for Model S and Model X. The Tesla website for Germany states that all models manufactured since 1 May have the necessary on-board electrical equipment to be charged via a CCS adapter on CCS charging stations.

Tesla Superchargers charging with up to 150 kW

Tesla is getting more capacity out of their second generation superchargers with a little more power than previously known. An increase in power from 120 kW to 145 kW was announced in March, but a spokesperson has now said that the upgrade will even enable 150 kW peak power.

Now it’s official: Tesla has revised its premium vehicles Model S and Model X and is now offering both cars with a more efficient powertrain, which among other things,  gets around ten per cent more range from the same 100 kWh battery.

Tesla presented its latest take at autonomous driving at its “Autonomy Day” and will install the Autopilot technology in all new vehicles with immediate effect. Utilising it, Tesla plans to launch its peer-to-peer “Robotaxi” service as early as next year, provided the authorities allow it.

Will Tesla Models S and X get a reluctance motor?

Tesla apparently plans to switch from the three-phase asynchronous to the reluctance motor on their Model S as well as the Model X. As far as the Model 3 is concerned, it looks as if the first U.S. deliveries of the new basic version are still to come.

Tesla releases production and delivery numbers

Tesla delivered around 63,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2019, including around 50,900 Model 3 and 12,100 Model S and Model X. This corresponds to an increase of 110 per cent compared to the same quarter last year. Compared to the last quarter of 2018, however, this represents a decline of 31 per cent.

Tesla presents next-gen Supercharger V3 (video)

Tesla has introduced the 3rd generation of its Supercharger. New power cabinets with 1 MW power and liquid-cooled cables enable peak rates of up to 250 kW for each charging electric vehicle at the new Supercharger locations, so no more splitting power.

About three years ago, Tesla announced an electric car for the mass market at a base price of 35,000 dollars. Now delivery is underway – at least in the USA. Interested parties in Europe will have to wait about half a year.

$139.5M – Tesla remains profitable – Model 3 delivers

Tesla has managed to stay profitable in Q4 2018 and thus reported its second consecutive quarterly profit. Still, Tesla earnings were hit on some fronts, but sales are looking good with Tesla having sold over 140,000 Model 3 throughout 2018 with more to come.

The renewed job cuts announced last week by Tesla apparently will mainly affect the production of the Model S and Model X. The electric car manufacturer has now confirmed that production hours for these high-priced models have been cut.

Tesla to the rescue

Falck, a company specialising in ambulance services, has converted a Tesla Model X into a rescue vehicle and is currently testing it in southern Denmark. A rollout is not entirely unlikely, given they went as far as designing a new system to power live-saving equipment independently.

Tesla to discontinue 75 kWh versions of Model S and X

Tesla is taking the 75 kWh versions of Model S and Model X off the market. Elon Musk announced via Twitter that the last orders for this version of the two models can only be taken until this Sunday evening. Meanwhile, Musk announced the new Roadster would take off, quite literally.
