Is Tesla upgrading Model S & Model X to 2170 cells?

The planned update of Tesla for Model S and Model X may be more extensive than expected. Sources with access to Tesla’s latest software code suggest that the two electric cars will receive not only a new drive but also new battery cells.

Will Tesla Models S and X get a reluctance motor?

Tesla apparently plans to switch from the three-phase asynchronous to the reluctance motor on their Model S as well as the Model X. As far as the Model 3 is concerned, it looks as if the first U.S. deliveries of the new basic version are still to come.

Tesla releases production and delivery numbers

Tesla delivered around 63,000 vehicles in the first quarter of 2019, including around 50,900 Model 3 and 12,100 Model S and Model X. This corresponds to an increase of 110 per cent compared to the same quarter last year. Compared to the last quarter of 2018, however, this represents a decline of 31 per cent.

Tesla has started to install a software update that increases the maximum usable charging capacity of the currently more than 12,000 second-generation superchargers worldwide from 120 to 145 kW.

Tesla presents next-gen Supercharger V3 (video)

Tesla has introduced the 3rd generation of its Supercharger. New power cabinets with 1 MW power and liquid-cooled cables enable peak rates of up to 250 kW for each charging electric vehicle at the new Supercharger locations, so no more splitting power.

Tesla makes Model 3 available for $35,000 in USA

About three years ago, Tesla announced an electric car for the mass market at a base price of 35,000 dollars. Now delivery is underway – at least in the USA. Interested parties in Europe will have to wait about half a year.

$139.5M – Tesla remains profitable – Model 3 delivers

Tesla has managed to stay profitable in Q4 2018 and thus reported its second consecutive quarterly profit. Still, Tesla earnings were hit on some fronts, but sales are looking good with Tesla having sold over 140,000 Model 3 throughout 2018 with more to come.

The renewed job cuts announced last week by Tesla apparently will mainly affect the production of the Model S and Model X. The electric car manufacturer has now confirmed that production hours for these high-priced models have been cut.

Tesla to the rescue

Falck, a company specialising in ambulance services, has converted a Tesla Model X into a rescue vehicle and is currently testing it in southern Denmark. A rollout is not entirely unlikely, given they went as far as designing a new system to power live-saving equipment independently.

Tesla is taking the 75 kWh versions of Model S and Model X off the market. Elon Musk announced via Twitter that the last orders for this version of the two models can only be taken until this Sunday evening. Meanwhile, Musk announced the new Roadster would take off, quite literally.

We can’t say for sure, but after Tesla recently announced that Model 3 will also be available in Europe from February, there are now the first indications of the planned quantities. According to Belgian media, Tesla plans to ship 3,000 vehicles per week to Europe starting in February.

Tesla lowers electric car prices in China

Tesla will lower the prices for the Model S and Model X in China by between 12% and 26%. The plan is to compensate for import tariffs, caused by the rift between the current U.S. administration and China. This means that Tesla’s BEVs will be more affordable in the far east.

Tesla ends free Supercharging for Model S and X

Those buying a Tesla Model S or Model X from now, will have to pay for charging at a Supercharger. The EV maker has ended its free Supercharging credit programme for good. Owners of a Model 3 had never benefitted from it in the first place.

Tesla’s new Q3 numbers released, hits 80,000 milestone

Tesla has managed to achieve a large jump in their production and sales number for Q3 of 2018. With 80,142 vehicles produced, they have increased the production volume by 50% compared to the previous quarter. With deliveries, Tesla has also managed to crack the 80,000 number of vehicles.

Drug plane crashes into Tesla Model X

An airplane from the US DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) was forced to crash land on a public road near Houston due to mechanical problems. Fortunately, the accident did not cause any casualties, however the plane collided with several power lines and vehicles, including a Tesla Model X.

Intax offers taxi packet for Model X

The vehicle refitter Intax is now offering a conversion kit to refit a Tesla Model X into a taxi or rental car. Previously the company had developed a similar packet for the Model S. Furthermore, the company is offering advisory services regarding the Model X for any customers, acting as a stand-in for Tesla.

The Berlin startup Blacklane has expanded their chauffer service by a new section: Green Class. Effective immediately, they offer the extra class in 20 cities around the world, now also utilising Tesla BEVs. The only German city with the service is Munich.

Record Q2 revenue paving way to profitability for Tesla

Tesla has released their business report for Q2 2018, and the numbers indicate that Tesla is heading towards being profitable quite soon. The revenue was at record levels for the company, but at the end of the day, Tesla is still in the red, albeit less so than at the end of the last quarter.
