Tesla is rumoured to release updated Model Y in 2024
Tesla is apparently also working on a revised version of the Model Y. According to an agency report, the new Model Y is being developed under the codename ‘Juniper’ and is scheduled to go into production in October 2024.

NHTSA has Tesla recall 362,000 US vehicles over Autopilot software
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is forcing Tesla to update its FSD (Full Self Driving) software for the Autopilot driver assistance system in around 362,000 vehicles. Elon Musk is furious, especially about the classification as a “recall” – again.

Tesla starts up battery plant in Grünheide
Production of the first battery components has kicked off at Tesla’s German factory in Grünheide. Jörg Steinbach, Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs, informed the state parliament after visiting the factory. Tesla itself has not yet commented on the commissioning.

Tesla steps up production to meet growing demand
Tesla plans to produce an average of 20,000 vehicles at its Shanghai factory in February and March. This is according to an internal planning memo available to the news agency Reuters. That would bring the production roughly back to the level of September 2022, when the factory turned out 82,088 Model 3 and Model Y.

Tesla lowers Model 3 & Y prices in Europe and the USA
After the latest significant price reduction in China, Tesla is now following suit in Europe and the USA. Depending on the variant, the two models have been reduced in price by up to 9,100 euros – especially the prices for the basic models with LFP battery and rear-wheel drive have been lowered.

Tesla’s renewed – and quite significant – price cuts for the Model 3 and Model Y in China are now causing protests from existing customers. Hundreds of Tesla owners protested against the company’s pricing policy in front of Tesla showrooms and delivery centres in China over the weekend.

Tesla has again lowered the prices for all versions of the Model 3 and Model Y in China. The entry-level Model 3 now comes at a record low of 229,900 yuan (just under €31,900) after Tesla skimmed off 36,000 yuan.

Tesla has presented its delivery and production figures for the fourth quarter of 2022 – and thus also for the year as a whole. With 439,701 electric cars built and 405,278 delivered, Q4 was unsurprisingly a new record for both figures.

Tesla increases 4680 cell production capacities
Tesla can now equip around 1,000 vehicles per week with its new 4680 battery cells. At the end of December, Tesla said it achieved a production rate of 868,000 4680 cells in one week – enough for said approximately 1,000 electric cars.

BEVs reach 77% market share in Norway over September
A total of 11,384 electric cars were newly registered in Norway in September, giving them a market share of 77.7 per cent of new passenger car registrations in the country. In addition, there were 1,669 new plug-in hybrids. With 3,063 new registrations, the Tesla Model Y topped the list among all drive types.

Tesla back on track with vehicle deliveries
Tesla reports that it manufactured 365,923 cars and delivered 343,830 units in the third quarter of this year. This means that the electric car maker is back on track for growth after a weak second quarter. The Grünheide plant is now contributing 2,000 Model Ys per week.

Tesla starts utilising BYD batteries at Giga Berlin
According to industry insiders, BYD has started supplying LFP cells to Tesla, specifically to the plant in Grünheide, Germany. The first batch of Tesla Model Ys equipped with BYD’s ‘Blade’ batteries are expected to roll off the assembly line at Giga Berlin in a month at the earliest.

Tesla is now allowed to sell vehicles that were manufactured during the plant tests at the factory in Grünheide and thus before the final approval decision. This is what the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment (LfU), as the responsible licensing authority, told RBB when asked.

Tesla delays from Shanghai and Giga Berlin
Tesla plans to stop most production at its Shanghai plant in the first two weeks of July to work on upgrading the site. Over in Europe, numerous deliveries of Model Y Performance from Giga Berlin have been postponed due to a technical problem.
