JB Straubel leaves Tesla for consultancy

Elon Musk announced in the context of the latest quarterly figure announcement that Tesla co-founder JB Straubel will withdraw from the operational business as Chief Technology Officer and will in future only work in an advisory capacity for Tesla. The new Tesla CTO will be Drew Baglino.

Tesla Q2: records broken and $5 billion in cash

In the second financial quarter of 2019, Tesla has produced 87,048 cars and delivered 95,356, surpassing all previous quarterly figures and enabling a similarly record-breaking cash flow. CTO, JB Straubel is stepping down after 15 years with the company.

Tesla Model 3 CHAdeMO compatible in the USA

The CHAdeMO adapter from Tesla is now also compatible with the Model 3. This means that the latest Californian vehicle model uses pretty much any charge columns if required. Meanwhile, preparations for the production of the Model Y seem to be underway in Fremont.

China: Tesla’s Model 3 factory ready for orders

Tesla has opened the order books in China for the Model 3, which the EV manufacturer will produce in its Shanghai plant, which is still under construction. The first deliveries of the Model 3 from local production are scheduled to start in six to ten months.

Tesla has unveiled the SUV variant of the Model 3 in Hawthorne, California. If the Model 3 looks like a small Model S, the Model Y can be likened to a shrunken Model X. More surprising than design and technical data is that the Model Y is optionally offered as a 7-seater.

Tesla sets Model Y debut for 14 March in LA

Tesla will unveil the Model Y at their design studio in Los Angeles on 14 March. According to Elon Musk, the electric SUV will be around 10% larger and more expensive than the Model 3 and will thus offer slightly less range as it uses the same battery.

$139.5M – Tesla remains profitable – Model 3 delivers

Tesla has managed to stay profitable in Q4 2018 and thus reported its second consecutive quarterly profit. Still, Tesla earnings were hit on some fronts, but sales are looking good with Tesla having sold over 140,000 Model 3 throughout 2018 with more to come.

Leaked documents lay out Tesla Model Y production data

Tesla appears to operate on an aggressive timeline for producing the Model Y, internal documents leaked to Business Insider show. Tesla sent said documents to engineers ahead of the Q3 earnings call in October and so a Tesla spokesperson called these to be “outdated” by now. Still they reveal ambition.
