New York to introduce EV sales quotas in 2026

In New York State, only zero-emission cars and light commercial vehicles may be sold from 2035. Governor Kathy Hochul has now outlined a strategy to systematically reduce the sale of internal combustion vehicles by then. New York is taking its cue from California.

Mercedes releases plug-in hybrid variants of the GLC

Mercedes-Benz is launching sales of two of the three plug-in hybrid versions of the new GLC unveiled in June. The GLC 300 e 4MATIC and the GLC 400 e 4MATIC will be offered in Germany at prices starting from €71,471 and €74,922 respectively.

New BMW iX1 and base i4 variant to release in November

China to extend tax exemption for NEVs over 2023

China will continue to exempt New Energy Vehicles (BEVs, FCEVs and PHEVs) from purchase tax in 2023. There had already been reports to this effect at the beginning of August, but now the official confirmation has come from the responsible ministry.

Volvo Cars has stopped selling mild hybrids in Denmark and now only offers electric cars and plug-in hybrids there. Denmark is the second country after Norway where Volvo Cars exclusively sells its BEV and PHEV models marketed under the Recharge label.

Ideanomics has announced plans for its subsidiary US Hybrid to Global Environmental Products with its proprietary electric and hybrid propulsion kits for use in the construction of 62 zero-emission street sweepers. China notes marked increase in EV sales over August

China’s NEV sales data shows a total of 632,000 cars sold in in August, more than in any previous month. Battery-electric vehicles continue to account for the vast majority of NEV sales in China, with 490,000 new BEVs in August compared to 142,000 PHEVs.

Mercedes releases Plug&Charge for PHEV models

The latest Mercedes PHEV now offer Plug&Charge via the ISO 15118 standard. The roll-out follows the earlier updates of the all-electric EQS and EQE models. The C- and S-Class plug-in hybrids now only need an over-the-air update, the new GLC supports Plug&Charge ex works.

Inflation Reduction Act passes the US House of Representatives
