LEVC reveals series VN5 electric van for £46,500

The Geely subsidiary LEVC has presented the series version of its electric van with range extender called VN5, which can be ordered immediately and delivered from the end of 2020. Prices for the British market have been revealed.

Ford adds geofencing tech for two PHEV vans

Ford will introduce a geofencing module for the Tourneo Custom PHEV and Transit Custom PHEV as standard equipment in autumn this year. The plug-in hybrids will then automatically switch to pure electric drive in urban low emission zones, for example.

Registrations of e-cars in Sweden at about 25%

In June, the overall car market in Sweden declined by 21.3 per cent in comparison with the same month last year. At the same time, BEV and PHEV were still able to increase their market share significantly, thanks to the Swedish subsidy system.

Hyundai to bring out Santa Fe PHEV in 2021

Hyundai has now provided details of the revised Santa Fe, which is also being offered as a hybrid and plug-in hybrid for the first time. The full hybrid is expected to be launched in autumn this year, while the PHEV will take a few months longer.

Austria boosts EV and charge point subsidies

The Austrian government is increasing purchase premiums and subsidies for charging infrastructure for zero-emission and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 1 July. This includes zero-emission and plug-in hybrid cars, zero-emission heavy and light commercial vehicles, zero-emission buses, and electric two-wheelers – including e-motorbikes, mopeds, e-bikes and e-cargo bikes.

California introduces Advanced Clean Trucks scheme

California now requires manufacturers to sell a gradually increasing proportion of electric trucks, vans and pickup trucks from 2024 onwards until 2035. By the year 2045, every new commercial vehicle sold in the US state should have zero-emission propulsion.

EU approves infrastructure funds in North Germany

The European Commission supports the establishment of charging stations for electric vehicles in Schleswig-Holstein through the German state. At least 1,500 additional charging points are to be created in Germany’s northernmost federal state and up to six bus depots are to be equipped with charging stations.

UK has double the EV chargers over fuel pumps

According to official figures, there were just under 18,000 public charging points in the UK on 1 April 2020. This means that there are now more than twice as many charging facilities for electric cars on the island as there are petrol stations (just over 8,000).

The last i8 to be made left the Leipzig BMW plant on Thursday. Production of the PHEV was actually supposed to end in mid-April. But since the factory was shut down because of the coronavirus crisis, the end of production was postponed to June.

China’s EV market is recovering slowly

In China, 55,829 battery-electric cars and 14,370 plug-in hybrids from local production were sold in May. The sales figures for so-called New Energy Vehicles were thus 25.8 per cent lower than in the same month last year, but 19.5 per cent higher than in April 2020.
