Bosch begins building €1BN chip factory in Dresden

The Silicon Saxony or Saxony Valley welcomes a new player in town as Bosch starts construction of its chip factory in Dresden as planned. It will mainly produce processors to serve e-mobility and is the largest investment in the company’s history.

VW is bundling battery competencies in Germany

Breakthrough: electric motor entirely 3D-printed

Researchers at the TU Chemnitz have 3D-printed an entire electric motor made of iron, copper and ceramic using the additive manufacturing process. They say it leads to better efficiency of the drives and enables more compact designs at the same time.

Bosch to build chip factory in Dresden for €1bn

Bosch is next to come to the “Saxonian Valley” as the supplier decided to build a chip factory in Dresden. Construction is planned to start this spring and will cost around one billion euros. The opening is set for 2021, when they will produce processors to serve e-mobility, among other things.

VW to produce 1,500 EVs daily in Zwickau plant in Saxony

Volkswagen released further details about its planned EV production in Zwickau in Germany’s federal state of Saxony. Thus, by 2020, the German carmaker wants 1,500 EVs based on the I.D. and I.D. Crozz to roll off the lines daily for VW, Seat and Audi.

Thomas Ulbrich to head VW’s new electric mobility unit

Volkswagen is creating a separate Board of Management division for electric mobility due to start operation at February, 1st. Head of the division will be Thomas Ulbrich, who was before responsible for Production and Logistics of the Volkswagen brand.
