BYD presents 800-volt platform
At the Shanghai Auto Show, BYD presented a new electric car platform that will also be offered to other carmakers. BYD’s ‘e-platform 3.0’ relies on the manufacturer’s Blade batteries and is supposed to enable enormous driving performance and ranges; there is talk of more than 1,000 kilometres.

IAV and Webasto develop e-drives for commercial EVs
The German engineering specialist IAV and automotive supplier Webasto have agreed on technology cooperation for electric commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks and off-road machinery. The plan is to pool their expertise.

SK Innovation battery swapping scales up in China
The South Korean company SK Innovation is entering the battery replacement technology business in China. This has been made possible by a strategic investment in the company specialised in battery swapping called Blue Park Smart Energy (BPSE) that is a subsidiary of the BAIC Group.

EDAG to develop hybrid storage using batteries and H2
The EDAG Group has started a joint research project with Hexagon Purus to develop a hybrid system of hydrogen and battery storage for integration into car floors. The customer should then be able to configure the number of storage units individually.

Lack of batteries hinders Mercedes & halts I-Pace production
Jaguar is suspending production of its electric SUV I-Pace in Graz, Austria this week due to battery cell supply problems. The British firm gets its batteries from the LG Chem plant in Poland. Mercedes is also suffering from lack of battery cells among other issues.
