Zeekr to launch smaller electric van

Geely's electric car brand Zeekr has applied for approval of a new model in China. The Zeekr Mix is a kind of van, but with only five seats and smaller than Zeekr's large 009 van.

The massive Zeekr 009 is currently only available in China, and its sister model, the Volvo EM90, is also primarily aimed at customers in the Far East. Little is currently known about the Zeekr Mix. However, as the vehicle is now listed in the catalogue of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), a market launch in China is certain. However, the model could also have potential for other markets.

It is common practice in China for new models to be leaked in the Ministry’s catalogue before the manufacturer itself communicates about the vehicle. All vehicles are listed in the catalogue with standardised data so that consumers can obtain neutral information and make comparisons. Inclusion in the catalogue is the last major regulatory process before a model can be sold in China.

Two versions of the Zeekr Mix have been registered, both of which have an electric motor. According to the documents, the vehicle is 4.69 metres long (slightly shorter than the global electric bestseller Tesla Model Y), 1.99 metres wide and 1.75 metres high – with a wheelbase of 3.01 metres. That makes the Mix almost half a metre shorter than the Zeekr 009. The electric motor is said to have an output of 310 kW and the batteries with NCM chemistry will be supplied by a joint venture between Geely and CATL. However, no further details are available yet.

The portal Car News China assumes that the vehicle will be presented at the Beijing Auto Show in April – and “will likely make its way to Europe in 2025.”
