Continental presents mild hybrid: Carmakers can integrate the “48 Volt Eco Drive” in serial production by 2016, a system that according to Continental can easily be fitted into cars with conventional drives. It reduces fuel consumption through recuperation and switching off the combustion engine while driving.

Platinum-free catalyst: Teijin Limited is working on non-platinum carbon alloy catalyst (CAC) used for the cathode oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in polymer electrolyte fuel cells. The goal is to develop automotive fuel cells using the technology. Teijin is targeting commercial use by 2025.

Electrifcation in South Africa: Freedom Won has electrified a Land Rover Defender 130, now dubbed Freedom 3. The vehicle has a range of 100 kilometres and will be used for tourist safaris by Chobe Game Lodge. A boat was also electrified, all in line with Chobe’s sustainable eco-tourism strategy.
