Volkswagen reorganizes production in China
Volkswagen is reorganising its production in China. While early information remains sparse, space is to be created for production of electric cars by bundling production. Among other things, the assembly of combustion models is to be relocated from the Anting plant to other sites.

Austrian police launches BEV pilot project
The Austrian police are testing a total of 23 electric cars in four federal provinces for their suitability in police service. The pilot project will start in the fourth quarter of 2023, but the 20 police stations in Salzburg, Lower Austria, Vienna and Tyrol have already taken delivery of the electric cars.

VWCV unveils ID. Buzz with longer wheelbase
Volkswagen is launching the ID. Buzz as a seven-seater version. The longer model was developed primarily for the US market and will mark the return of the VW bus to North America next year. Plus, the seven-seater also brings some technology upgrades to Europe.

Electrify America and BMW deepen their bond over the new i5
BMW of North America today announced an agreement with Electrify America to provide first-time owners of the incoming BMW i5 with two years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions. This agreement expands on the included charging offered for other electric BMW cars.

Volkswagen’s Elli adjusts charging tariffs Europe-wide
Volkswagen’s energy subsidiary, Elli, is set to change tariffs with higher prices coming in from June. This adjustment will affect not only Elli customers but also the charging fees of VW brands. We have learned that prices across the board are rising, including the previously affordable Ionity rates.

Electrify America to build EV charging hubs in Utah
Electrify Commercial has announced its partnership with Rocky Mountain Power, a division of PacificCorp, to deploy 20 EV charging hubs in Utah. They will install over 80 charging stations across 15 locations in the Salt Lake City area, along with five hubs in surrounding regions.

Volkswagen scraps plans for a second battery factory in Lower Saxony
According to a media report, Volkswagen currently sees no chance of realising a second battery cell factory in Lower Saxony, Germany. Lower Saxony’s Minister President Stephan Weil spoke out in favour of a second cell factory in Emden – but was outvoted in the supervisory board because of the costs involved.

Miles adds 1,000 VW ID.3s to carsharing fleet
German carsharing provider Miles is adding another 1,000 VW ID.3s to its fleet. The new electric cars will mainly be available for rent in Hamburg. This will increase the share of electric vehicles in the Miles fleet acoss Germany to around 25 per cent.

Duvenbeck aims for 120 MAN eTrucks
Logistics service provider Duvenbeck has signed a memorandum of understanding with MAN Truck & Bus for the deployment of 120 MAN eTrucks to be delivered by 2026. The fully electric 40-tonne truck will be the first to run for Volkswagen Group Logistics from 2024 onwards.

Gotion to supply VW with batteries outside of China
The Chinese battery cell manufacturer Gotion High-Tech will in future also supply Volkswagen with LFP cells outside China. The order, the size of which is not yet known, includes unit cells with LFP chemistry and the same specifications as in China. One possible model could be the ID.2.

VW Group delivered over 141,000 BEVs in Q1
The Volkswagen Group handed over 141,000 BEVs to customers worldwide in the first quarter of 2023. Compared to the same period last year, which was more affected by supply bottlenecks, the group’s BEV deliveries rose by 42 per cent.

Italy investigates Enel over alleged EV charging monopoly
Italy’s antitrust authority has opened an investigation into Enel, the country’s biggest utility, for possibly abusing its dominant position in charging stations for electric vehicles. The investigation concerns all of Enel’s EV charging business and could also have repercussions for Volkswagen.
