VW to upgrade Emden factory over summer break

Volkswagen has announced that it will be pushing ahead with a number of construction projects at the Emden site during the upcoming plant holiday. More than 1,000 employees and external workers are to work on around 300 construction sites between 2 and 27 August for the transformation to an EV production site.

QuantumScape starts testing ten-layered solid-state cells

Solid-state battery specialist and Volkswagen partner QuantumScape has announced the development of ten-layer battery cells in a recent quarterly report. The goal is to lead the new cells to similar capacity retention and cycling behaviour as the previous single- and four-layer cells.

Gotion rumoured to build unified VW battery cells in China

Volkswagen’s battery partner Gotion High-Tech also wants to produce the Group’s new unified battery cells in China, local media reports. The corresponding factory is to be built on an area of 333,000 square metres in the city of Hefei and designed for an annual production capacity of 20 GWh.

Volkswagen sells over 170,000 EVs in first half of 2021

Volkswagen AG delivered more than twice as many electric cars in the first half of 2021 as in the same period last year (+165.2%). The Group had sold 170,939 battery-electric cars worldwide by the end of June, 110,991 of them in Q2 of this year alone.
