Renault innovations: Based on its Eolab protoype, the French carmaker has previewed new engines and other innovations. Its new compact electric motor develops 65 kW and peak torque of 220 Nm and is slated to enter production in 2015. Furthermore, prototypes like the Twizy Delivery Concept were shown as part of the VELUD (Electric Vehicle for Sustainable Urban Logistics) project.

Next stage eHorizon: Continental, together with its partner IBM and cloud company HERE is to present ‘dynamic eHorizon’. The updated service that builds on eHorizon (we reported) takes into account real time events like weather and accidents and further serves to optimise the engine management system in hybrid vehicles as well as range maximization of electric vehicles.

EV tires: Finnish Nokian has come up with the Hakkapeliitta R2 which is specifically designed for the BMW i3, the company claims. The winter tire will go on sale by January 2015 and is said to reduce the rolling resistance by up to 30 percent and thus to increase the electric vehicle’s range.
