Around 70,000 Model S have been built since Tesla kicked off production two and a half years ago. The numbers are not official, since Tesla is waiting for year-end financial results. Instead, they are based on adding up estimates, as well as the serial numbers of the vehicles shown at the Detroit Auto Show.
