Tesla has allegedly already completely sold out its production capacity for the second quarter. According to a US media report, Elon Musk has now told employees this – about two months before the end of the quarter.

In the first quarter of 2021, Tesla generated a surplus of 438 million US dollars (around 362 million euros) and revenue of 10.389 billion US dollars, (around 8,593 billion euros). Tesla says this is mainly due to lower costs.

Tesla announced new record deliveries of 184,800 electric cars during the first quarter of 2021. Q1 of any year but especially this Covid-year is traditionally a slow quarter for car companies which makes it even more remarkable.

Tesla is apparently planning to close its European assembly plant in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Dutch media report that the assembly of the Model S and X there will be stopped “very soon”. This is likely due to the two models being updated.

The US NHTSA has launched a probe over a potential design flaw in older Model S battery packs that could prove dangerous. Reportedly, parts in the cooling mechanism in 2012 to 2016 Tesla Model S units could render the battery pack useless or even cause fires.

Tesla production & delivery report Q2/2020

Tesla delivered a total of 90,650 vehicles in the second quarter of 2020, 2,250 more than in the first quarter of the year. From April to June a total of 82,272 Tesla vehicles were produced, which significantly fewer than in the 1st quarter due to Corona restrictions.
