H2 race car vs. ICE competitors: Dutch student team Forze of Delft University of Technology will participate in a fossil fuelled race during the Gamma Racing Days next weekend. It is a first in the race’s history that has never seen a hydrogen-powered car compete.

Hybrid systems for yachts by Rolls-Royce: With close-to-production hybrid systems from its MTU brand, the carmaker wants to catch attention at this year’s yacht shows in Cannes and Monaco. The prototypes based on Rolls-Royce’s 16-cylinder Series 2000 engine work on a modular basis, i.e. they cover various electrical outputs within series solutions depending on the diesel-engine series.

Hybrid zinc battery research: Scientists of the A*STAR Institute of Materials Research and Engineering in Singapore say they have developed a hybrid zinc battery that combines the best of zinc-air and zinc-nickel technologies, completing over 5,000 charging cycles with no loss of performance. According to them, their findings could soon challenge conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Lucas di Grassi new Formula E champion: Brazilian pilot Lucas Di Grassi of team ABT-Audi is this season’s world champion of the Formula E and the third ever to follow previous winners Nelson Piquet jun. and Sébastien Buemi. In the season final in Montreal Di Grassi finished only seventh but was still fast enough overall to beat title contender Sébastien Buemi. First to cross Montreal’s finish line was Jean-Eric Vergne of Techeetah.
