France funds U.S. climate scientists

French president Macron puts the money where his mouth is as he pledges to grant millions to U.S. scientists working on climate change. Such foreign aid had become vital since Trump is in open denial and wants to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.

U.S. president Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the COP21 agreement did not come as a surprise but was met head on by Emmanuel Macron. In his reply, the French president promised to raise no less than 70m dollars to support 18 climate scientists – among them 13 from the States – to give them the possibility to continue their research.

Macron ended his passionate speech with the words “Make our planet great again!” and indeed, Trump may not even make it in office long enough to diminish it. His withdrawal from the Climate Pact would only take effect by 2021 and who knows, maybe the reigns of the States will already be in Oprah Winfrey’s hands by then.
