California: PG&E to install 7,500 additional chargers

Energy provider Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) states that it plans to install not less than 7,500 chargers at residential buildings and office in northern and central California until 2020.

The company wants to tackle this challenge together with business clients and charging infrastructure providers and intends to make use of the state’s new 130m-dollar scheme called EV Charge Network.

The company’s aim is to encourage the use of electric-powered vehicles across the state. Business clients are able to apply for the programme from now on. To date, more than 500 clients declared to be interested. First installations are planned before this quarter’s end. First client will be the Merced College. 15 percent of the chargers are going to be installed in disadvantaged communities.
