Canoe-inspired hybrid yacht to hit the high seas

Premium ship builder Oceanco decided to go old school with their new concept hybrid yacht. The Tuhura takes inspiration from canoes used by Maori people but scales it up. Big time.

The 115 metres yacht was revealed at the Dubai International Boat Show and is propelled by the partially electric ABB Azimov system. The teak interior may be a little less sustainable, but rest assured that not many Tuhura are likely to be built.

Designer Igor Lobanov explains his design thus: “The thought was to take a natural shape similar to those seen in the earliest canoe-type craft and augment it on a larger scale, using modern technology.” The name Tuhura is derived from the Maori word for ‘discover’.
