Kiekert presents improved actuator for charging plugs
German Kiekert has updated its charging plug actuator, saying it now locks the connector more safely thanks to a new gearing. Improved sensors are to ensure more precise detection of the locking pin for greater system safety.
Kiekert has launched a more compact and robust actuator with new drive technology. The higher gear ratio inside the small package results in increased locking force relative to conventional gearing, according to the press release.
The system can be unlocked using the vehicle key or a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet. In the event of a power outage, the charging plug can be unlocked using a mechanical emergency release in the form of a button or lever inside the vehicle.
Kiekert says a number of automakers have already expressed their interest in the actuator solution. The company plans to put it into production at the end of 2019.
