BYD to sponsor Arsenal?
China’s BYD has landed a deal with London premier league football club Arsenal as it becomes a new sponsor. The vehicle maker is now the club’s official car and bus partner and will also receive prominent BYD branding opportunities.

We expect fans will get mixed messages from the shirts, sporting “Fly Emirates” in front and BYD on the back. However, we should note they perhaps plan to address different audiences, as while Arsenal fans from western nations are somewhat numerous, Arsenal has one of the largest followings of any club in China, with 4.7 million followers on social media platform Weibo.
Update, July, 18: While the deal makes sense, it appears that both Arsenal and ourselves have been fooled. BYD is warning against an impostor in their own ranks that has been using their name to close deals without their authorisation.
