The Austrian charging station operator Smatrics has expanded their European roaming network. Thanks to the cooperation with Enel X, users may now access around 4,000 charging points in Italy and 1,900 EnBW chargers in Germany.

So far, Smatrics customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland and other network partners in Germany have been able to purchase electricity for the electric car with their charging cards. Enel X and EnBW are now two more significant suppliers. The new agreements are also bilateral: Conversely, EnBW and Enel X customers can use the Smatrics-charging network.

“This is an important factor for long-haul suitability and the consolidation of the offer in Germany as well as the expansion to Italy means even more travel comfort on many other routes”, says Smatrics Managing Director Michael-Viktor Fischer about the new roaming partnerships. The company is also one of the founding members of the S.A.F.E. association, which aims to simplify vehicle charging processes and make them more transparent.

Through the partnership with the e-mobility subsidiary of the Italian mineral oil company Enel, the company is opening up a special location in the future: Enel X put twelve charging columns into operation in Vatican City. Two electric cars can charge at the AC charging points, each with up to 22 kW. Eight more columns will be added.

In Italy, 14,000 charging points are to be installed by 2020 and 28,000 by the end of 2022. To date, over 6,000 charging points have been put into operation.
