Tesla shows ventilator prototype out of car parts
Tesla has unveiled the prototype of a ventilator using automotive parts including a touch screen, infotainment computer and Model 3 ECUs. The device looks like a hobby solution but fulfils the mission of avoiding using parts required by medical suppliers.
The result is a ventilator prototype with two-thirds of its components made up of actual electric car parts. Among these are a Model 3 mixing chamber, as well as a Model 3 infotainment system running unique software to monitor a patient’s breathing.
Although the video does not reveal when the ventilator will go into production, Musk has previously said that Tesla will build the ventilator “as soon as humanly possible.”
