German city to raise parking fees for EVs

In Tübingen, parking fees for residents will be significantly increased. Particularly heavy cars such as SUVs are being targeted, however, the fee increase will also affect the comparatively cleaner electric vehicles as well due to their comparatively high weight.

The way the new regulation works is that owners of heavy combustion vehicles weighing more than 1,800 kg will have to pay 180 euros a year for residents’ parking instead of 30 euros, otherwise, it costs 120 euros. Notably, the 180 euros also apply to electric cars with a weight of over 2,000 kg. The reason is the state says preferential treatment of electric cars is inadmissible.
