Toyota decreases prices for the bZ4X in China

Toyota has significantly reduced the price of its electric SUV bZ4X in China, only four months after the official sales launch. The move is seen as a reaction to the wave of price cuts initiated by Tesla in January.

GAC Toyota announced that the price of the bZ4X has been reduced by 30,000 yuan (€4,105), bringing the starting price down from 199,800 to 169,800 yuan. Or converted, the price has dropped from 27,340 euros to 23,240 euros.

According to the CN EV Post, the manufacturer spoke of a limited-time offer in the post on its WeChat account but did not specify how long this offer would be available. However, the end date is an important piece of information for a limited-time offer.

Unfortunately, the significantly lower prices in China cannot be compared with the offers in Europe and North America, as they are different drives. In the USA, the bZ4X is available at prices starting at $42,000 before subsidies and has a 71.4 kWh battery. The base model in China also has a 150 kW front-wheel drive, but only a 50.3 kWh battery.

Toyota is the next manufacturer to apparently react to the wave of price cuts initiated by Tesla in January, when the Model Y prices dropped between 29,000 and 48,000 yuan, depending on the drive option. Among others, Xpeng had also followed suit in China.

Curious if this will impact the two twins of this vehicle. The Subaru Solterra and Lexus RZ. They are $3000 and $14,000 more expensive in the US. I believe GAC builds all 3 for the Chinese market, and Toyota builds all 3 in Aichi Japan for all other markets.
