Volvo CE is bringing electric loaders to Singapore
Volvo Construction Equipment is preparing to launch sales in Singapore. The company’s new online portal is open for Singapore companies to register their interest in using electric machines from Volvo CE with the first to arrive in the next quarter.
The first Volvo CE machines to arrive in Singapore will be the ECR25 Electric compact excavator and the L25 Electric compact wheel loader. The company launched the latter loader in 2019 followed by deliveries in Europe in the spring of 2020 and in North America in 2021.
Now in Singapore, they also expect strong interest. AM Muralidharan, Head of Productivity & Retail Development Asia, added they had been discussing the arrival of electric machines in Singapore “for several months, so we know interest is strong”. The new online portal was to help Volvo CE “structure the introduction and create more personalized customer experiences,” so the executive. “Singapore has a strong global reputation for sustainability and customers here are already asking for the machines, having read about them on projects in the U.S. or Europe,” said AM Muralidharan. “So we’ve been working hard to create the necessary structure to introduce the machines locally. These are our first electric machines in South East Asia, and we expect them to attract interest from beyond Singapore’s borders too.”
The L25 has an operating weight between 4,900 – 5,270 kg and a 40 kWh battery. The ECR25 offers 2,680 – 2,780 kg in operating weight with a 20 kWh battery.
Singapore construction contractors, utility companies, industrial businesses, energy companies and others are called to register their interest from today. Participants will be invited to a live walkthrough to see the technology up close.
“We are phasing out the use of diesel engines in our compact machines over the course of this decade so the upcoming release of these electric machines in Singapore is an important milestone,” continued AM Muralidharan.
Volvo CE has announced targets towards carbon neutrality by 2040 and an electric vehicle share of 35 per cent of its sold machines in 2030. When it comes to delivering a carbon-neutral construction industry, the company says “we must act now”.
