Osprey teams up with Motability on accessible charge points

British charge point operator Osprey Charging has been selected by Motability Operations, the UK’s largest leasing company and the organization that delivers the Motability Scheme to over 690,000 people with disabilities, as their first charge point operator (CPO) partner.

The collaboration will allow Motability Scheme EV drivers to find a location on Osprey’s GB-wide rapid charging network, charge, and pay through the Motability Go Charge App before reviewing the location for accessibility.

The two companies will work together to see how customers for the Motability Scheme can access Osprey’s national network of over 750 charge points, saying they will review these against accessibility criteria.

In June 2021, in partnership with the national disability charity Motability, the Department for Transport (DfT) commissioned the British Standards Institute (BSI) to develop accessibility standards for EV charge points in the UK. These standards provided the industry with guidance and drivers with a new clear definition of ‘fully accessible’, ‘partially accessible’ and ‘not accessible’ public EV charge points.

The current collaboration with Osprey will allow Motability Scheme EV drivers to find a location on Osprey’s GB-wide rapid charging network, charge, and pay through the Motability Go Charge App before reviewing the location for accessibility. This is also meant to improve confidence among drivers using the Motability Scheme in choosing and using public charging.
