Osprey invests in charging the East of England

Osprey Charging is bringing a new quality to public-private partnerships. Working with Dacorum Borough Council in the East of England, the provider has signed up to boost public EV infrastructure - at its own cost.

Osprey will install 30 rapid and ultra-rapid EV chargers at eight public car parks across Dacorum in Hertfordshire County, near the M25 (North). The sites will be 100% funded by Osprey, with no local council funding required. The charge point operator (CPO) won the Council bid in consortium with AC charging provider Connected Kerb.

Osprey selected the sites through spatial analysis that maximises the number of residents within 15 minutes of a rapid EV charger.

The first locations are open at The Forge in Tring and the High Street in Hemel Hempstead, both with three rapid chargers, the company informs. Other installations are planned to come to Berkhamsted, Markyate, and Kings Langley. An additional high-powered Osprey Charging hub, equipped with six 300kW chargers, is intended for the Water Gardens car park in central Hemel Hempstead.

Osprey specifies rapid charging when drivers can add up to 100 miles of range within 35 minutes; ultra-rapid hubs deliver a charge in 15 to 20 minutes.

The British charging provider has been busy this year. Osprey announced new cooperation with brewer and pub company Wells & Co, for example, and formed the lobby group ChargeUK with 17 other charging providers.

In September, Osprey was also selected by Motability Operations, a major UK leasing company, which also delivers the Motability Scheme to over 690,000 people with disabilities, as their first CPO partner. Osprey claims that it was the first CPO to build accessible public charging hubs and to subscribe to the independent, public EV charging endorsement body ChargeSafe.

In today’s news as well, CEO Ian Johnston emphasised the accessibility of the new charge points being installed across Dacorum Borough Council. He added that the partnership was “a great example of how local authorities and charge point operators can work together to deliver reliable, accessible and high-quality public EV charging”. Says Johnston: “As recognised by our winning bid, each of our new locations is carefully designed to maximise ease-of-use, accessibility and, above all, an excellent customer experience of charging, working to the latest and highest standards.”
