Rivian makes progress with its second US production facility

According to Rivian, Mittelbach has worked as Plant Manager for Mercedes-Benz in several locations across the globe. He has more than 20 years of experience in the automotive industry.

Meanwhile, the American EV maker shared an update on the progress it has been making in Georgia. The manufacturing facility will have a capacity of 400,000 EVs when completed.

Rivian first announced that it was building a second factory in December 2021. At the time, the carmaker said construction would kick off in 2022 and production at the end of 2024. Now, it “expects to hold a formal groundbreaking ceremony in early 2024, with start of vertical construction to begin thereafter.”

There is no mention of when Rivian expects to build the first EVs.

The manufacturer agreed to invest 5 billion dollars in the new plant and create some 7,500 jobs – both targets it will have to reach by 2028 under an agreement with the US state of Georgia, which will, in turn, provide 1.5 billion dollars in subsidies.
